Hio folks,
I am back from a long absence and am looking to resume the the madness again.
I sold the only yak I ever had [ Cobra fish n dive] and wondered if a different one would do better.
Diving is my primary purpose though so racing and knifing thru the waves to beat you guys to The hotspot ain't gonna happen so a bigger capacity platform is the idea.
However, fishing is also a need and it cannot be a dive platform only.

I wonder if the other big boats ie. O.K. big game or the new Malibu X factor can equal the benefits of the cobra fish n dive. I'm 280 lbs and with tank and fish, abs, water and wetsuit we already exceed the capacity of the normal boats.
Does anyone have a bead on this?

I'm about 20 lbs heavier and have used a Cobra Marauder for years and now have a Trident 15.  Both have plenty of features that make it perfect for the type of work you're talking about.  I don't dive with tanks though, so that would be new for me.

In terms of raw weight capacity, I am confident that either of those boats would be suitable.

Steve I have both the F&D and the XF and for your uses I would stay with the F&D.
The XF is a little faster and tracks better but the F&D turns better and gets to speed faster.
The main reasons I think the F&D would be better is you can throw stuff in the front of it with the big hatch on the XF there is no place to stash stuff in front unless you take off the hatch, plus I find re-entry on the F&D much easier. The XF is a more comfortable for long days in the saddle but as long as you can live with the tight footwells on the F&D it's pretty comfy also. The F&D is also easier to carry.
Don't know your location but you can test drive mine if you want.

Any of the above will work.  The T-15 will do it and get you there a bit faster.  How tall are you?

Wow.
Thanks for the responses and the offers.
A test drive at "Oaktown-sturgeon ground" would be awesome.
I tested the Trident and the re-entry on a 30 Inch yak I didn't like much. The Cobra FnD and the X factor is wide enough as is the big game which I have never paddled.
The heavy Cobra hatches are also a plus on rough and quick re-entries. The X-factor hatch looks heavy duty as well.
[The Malibu two has the side ways oval hatch that does not fit a spear gun or stow the rods away when diving.]
I considered the O.K. peekaboo as the WINDOW to see below is a nice feature. However, I have never seen a serious reference to it as a dive boat except for" family play." Also no hatches.
I fear the best and clearest winter of all will pass with out a serious rockfish yak dive off the Big Sur coast if I don't find one and pull the trigger soon.
Clarity of water and density of the rockfish are great this year.

steve send me a private message. i'll bring the boat out saturday but she's not ready to fish sturgeon - no anchor sorry.  but at least you can take her for a ride.  we can talk the details and the current price of the boat and its rigging just in case you're interested.
