After h00kie had so much fun with his sturgeon I decided to follow him around. The first day we got stuck in the dreaded rush hour traffic. What was supposed to be a 30 minutes ride turned into an hour and change.

We sat on the water for 3 hours and I had to leave. And wouldn't you know it, the leopards move in. :(

The second day we got there pretty fast but just as I was getting ready to launch I got a call form my son's school and the boy was sick. I had to go back and get him.

So what did they say about the third time?

I brought out the old bass bait caster with the mighty Calcutta, going light!   :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Well, unlike h00kie I was after anything that bit and bite they did! Bendo on the shimano compre!  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

The leopards didn't take long to home in on the squid

After a dozen or so of these my body was aching. Not from fighting the fish but from trying to remove the hooks!   :smt013  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

I need a hot shower!   :smt044

Nice.

I've never kept a leopard. Don't know why, I hear they're good eating.

Yea, right! Sharks from a float tube..... :smt056 :smt005

littoral, I have not kept one either. I don't think I want to keep a fish that feeds so heavily inside the bay. And that includes sturgeons. But that's just me. :smt002

Leopards are a lot of fun to catch but I generally don't eat anything that has "soak it in milk overnight" as part of the recipe.
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Ha! That's awesome Jamie. A dozen sharks from the yak sounds like a workout. Thanks for the report+pics.

The workout part was the hook removal. Next time I will go with even lighter gear and barbless hooks.... :smt002 :smt003

That must have been lots of fun catching the shark on light tackle.

Looks like you had a good day, pretty fish.

When I target leopards I use wide gap rubber worm hooks with the barbs smashed flat. these hooks are pretty thin but strong, they come out easy and if not they're easy to cut with a pair of wire cutters.

Nice going, Compa! I really admire the beauty of this creature... hard fighters too. I wonder how light you went on your tackle. I catch them over at SLeandro channel on 15# mono and its a blast.

I had 20 lb braid main line and 30 lb mono top shot. The shimano compre is a bass rod and it's medium heavy. It needs to be that heavy in order to cast 3 oz to 4 oz weights.

I will be trying to get away with 1 to 2 oz weight next time and bring a lighter rod with the same braid line, but without the top shot.
