Got on the water at sunrise with cool and calm conditions.  I threw the spook for a while and managed to get one barely legal striper.  Now that I was on the board, I decided to try and figure out the bass bite.  Threw t-rigged worms for nada, then switched to the trusty jig.  I got a couple smaller fish in tight at high tide.  The bites were few and far between.  I switched to a swim jig and nailed a nice 7 pounder.  This fish took me by surprise.  It hit pretty light, but then rocketed into the tules when hooked.  I wound up having to go in the thick stuff after her, unwrap my line and lip the fish that was thrashing at the top.  All in all it was a good day out there with beautiful weather.

Nice work out there XSquid!  Looks like the bass are fattening up for the spawn already!  The big one on your lap has a huge mouth!  In a couple months, it'll break 8-9 pounds easy!

Nice reward to find hiding in the tules!  So far the only thing I've pulled from tules are lures thrown with too much gusto. :smt003

Were you fishing braided line or floro?  What pound test?  You did a nice job pulling that fish out of a tough spot either way.

Get me one of those baits...you are a good salesman.

I have 20 pound mono on that rod, saved the day for me.  The fish went into then around a group of tules.  My line was wrapped around the tules about 4 feet up and the fish wound up on the surface maxing the line out!
