Domenic and I did some miles on the Eel today from the forks down to Holmes Flat.  We didn't see or hear of any fish caught, and we only managed a few nibbles - one that I hooked for a moment jumped and it was smolt sized.  We were mostly tossing lures and threw in a little back-trolling with some plugs.  Pretty slow on the steelie-front, but we had a blast.  The weather was nice for January with a little tail-wind at times, and the water was a quality green with about 5' vis.  It was a good day.   :smt001

Hey , great pics. I really like the one on the downed tree. The weather and conditions look to make a most enjoyable outing. Love those clear skies. I men we need rain but if we're not going to get it it might as well be nice. Abking Me wishes you didn't live so far away but if you want to trip down and fish the bay for sturgeon you got a place to stay right here. Craig

Thanks, Guys, and thanks to Craig for the kind offer of a place to crash.  I don't know if I could handle sturgeon fishing - trying to hang out in one spot waiting for a steelie yesterday had me just about stir-crazy!  I end up drinking too much beer if I'm not busy paddling or reeling something in!  :smt003  I need the ocean.  I need it really badly.  Domenic just scored some Roleez with the sand wheels, so we'll be doing some beach miles soon.

Counting down the days 'til May 1st...   :smt001

You're right, but I was thinking, "the South Fork's much prettier"!  I'll wait for some rain and run the South Fork or maybe make it over to the Mattole.

My fly-fishing buddy goes there every year chasing winter steelheads. Did you see any fly-fishing-fools out there?

Thanks for the report and pix.

Yep.  There were quite a few people on the river, fly-guys included.  Just not many (any?) fish.   :smt001

Nice pictures Abking. You're right about ocean fishing. Even though I got sick a lot getting used
to the swells, I missed that none stop bite not knowing what you are going to get at the end
of your line. Can't wait for the rock fish season.
