went with my brother and some friends / kids to los vaqueros in livermore and caught nothing. just sat around on one of those E boats and got sunburned and looked at birds.

came in early and left the boat behind to find that everyone on shore was doing well with trout. we were totally in the wrong place at the wrong time.

anyways, nice day on the water and i still SUCK at freshwater fishing. its in my blood.

Sorry to hear about the skunk John.  Although I've never been to LV, I can vouch many times for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Regarding LV, I only wish they'd allow kayaks on the lake.  Does anybody know why they don't?

LV does not allow anything that they do not supply because its drinking water used when needed. the "Fishing Gestapo" at the marina will be glad to reiterate that many times. ask a question and get 25 answers in a rude fashion there.

they told us the rules of the E boats and were pretty much treating us like criminals threatening us that they will keep the deposit if we do this this this this x 25..... and the last threat before we took the kids out was "there is a shear pin on the propeller, if you shear it off we will keep the deposit and also ban you from renting here ever again..."

this was all fine with me because i don't think those boats are worth 50.00 for a half day and it takes so long to get from one side to another half your time is gone before you even start fishing. hell, my kayak goes faster and can fish shallower than those boats. they can ban me even for nothing for all i care.

another thing is we found structure near shore for bass maybe and the rule is you have to stay away from shore or you'll be BANNED! how the hell do you fish bass in deep water with no structure. (as the guy in the marina was saying "the bass have been biting....")

i wonder why everyone was fishing from shore and of the 30 boats they have only  were on the water. maybe people just don't like the Gestapo?

i prefer the boats at capitola and i prefer ocean fishing myself. in capitola they let you loose on those skiffs and its a lot of fun because they like to see people have fun.

my opinion only.

Wow, thanks John.  Sorry to hear about the unpleasant time.  It just confirms why I'll never visit.

Part of the irony of not allowing personal boats is that I was told by an employee of the Contra Costa Water District at the San Mateo ISE that the lake was built on the premise that people would be allowed to take in boats but that it was conveniently swept under the rug later. :smt011

And BTW CCWD, there are many lakes that are for drinking water that allow boats on their water, Loch Lomond for one.  OK, I'm done!
