Decided to go to Del Valle with my wife Karen and new puppy Molly to see how she would do on the yak. Molly is 3-4 months old and a golden retriever and you know what that means.  :smt044 Got there before around noon and ran her around and had a nice lunch while watching PatR trolling through the armada of PB's. Finally got around to launching the yak around 1230-1 and ran into Pat R on the ramp. I walked over and asked him how he did and and he said pretty good then he showed me his stringer and OMG!!!!!!!  :smt007 :smt007 :smt007 looked like something out of Big Sur. Then he gave me the snare and anchor float he made for me and OMG!!! they were so cool!!! Thanks so much buddy.  :smt006 Will probably miss the sturgeon season this year but may get to use it on a thresher if I get to fish with PJ this summer.  :smt005 Finally launched and trolled around the launch for 45" with a BrookTrout J-7 and Firetiger J-7 and hooked a STUD 18" bow on the brook trout. Molly did OK on her first outing but seemed to be confused by the fish.  :smt005

Looks like a great day on the water... Is that a PFD on you pup??? I thought retrievers were excellent swimmers...?

DUH!!!! Oh yeah she can swim, the PFD has 2 handles on it which allowed me to keep her in the yak and when she did jump off, I could pick her up really easy.  :smt005 Actually it was my wifes idea and it turned  out to be a good idea. My wife wasn't up to paddling for health reasons and took pictures from shore which I will post. It was quite entertaining. Might have to call Chuck for some training advice.  :smt044

Way to go, Scott!   Great report and awesome fish!

I have been itching to get out to yak and fish, and had even thought about heading out to DV today.    But, been traveling a lot lately and was too tired to get out.   Glad you got into a nice fish.

Hope your wife is feeling better.

Nice picture of the trout and the pup Scott. I have never been there at DV. I
can't wait to kayak fish that lake. I am sure it'll be another ball game for me.

Good Fish..... Scott,

Looks like you are at the boat ramp when you took that pic.  Looks like the "honey hole" is right behind you.  Which it is always there.  Is the water up or down?  Is there any water in the swim area?

Thanks,  Ken kickfish

GB2.... very cool pup.  Cool looking trout too.  It almost looks like a German Brown.

Might have to call Chuck for some training advice.  :smt044

Feel free to call me anytime.  I enjoy the dog work.  I got a big kick introducing Frankfishing's little lab puppy to water.  Seeing his pup swim for the first time was gratifying.
