After seeing all the reports from OAP we had to give it a try no matter how irresponsible it might be.  We had quite the crew with us, including otobepelagic, FisHunter, Freddie, Ariel Sea, Findthatfish, and to top it off '07 Champ ChuckE joined us just as the tide was turning.

Freddie dialed us in and onto the spot, and we fell into formation.  The bay was FLAT with no wind and WARM.
The current was moving at a good clip but far from ripping.

There was no real action for most of the day, no critters or pests, no swings and misses...

Then at about 4 o'clock I get a light tap, I point the KUNZ stick down stream and I get a pump... Swing and Fish on!  Just dead weight at first, then it realized it was hooked and headed straight for Freddie.  I didn't want to realease my anchor unless I had to, I may have waited too long.  The fish threaded the needle of Freddie's line and anchor rope, picked up his line and took it and me down stream.

Freddie was trying to get me off his line but I could not see it to get under it and free.  I managed to get his line (braid) up to the tip of my rod and free it while the fish continued to take me for a ride. I dropped his line over the side and it quickly became tangled in my drive unit, Freddie realeased his anchor and was coming along for the ride.

During all of this my avet mx was making some really scary noises, it has been acting up lately and this beast was the final straw, the reel is shot.  Finally tired the fish out and saw some bubbles, but still hadn't seen the fish.  Up came the head and I got really excited, it looked to be in the slot.  Got the snare on and luckily had Freddie there to help get a good measurement, good to go, borrowed Freddie's "steel shampoo" to make it official (I need to upgrade from my woody!).

I trudged back upstream to the crew and and was greeted with congratulations.  Got back on the hook and enjoyed the moment.

As always it was a great time on the water with great people.  Extra special thanks to Freddie, Melissa, and  Chuck for all of their knowledge and help.

-Patrick

Congrats Patrick!  I bet your dad is proud.  :smt044

The streak continues in my own backyard and I'm lovin' it.  With the crew that was out that day, I just knew something big was going down.

After sitting through the last2 sessions with you before you guys went to Oaktown I am really enjoying that big smile and that awesome fish. That shot of you holding the fish in the sunset is magazine material. I hope whoever shot that pic is aware how awesome it is. Fantastic. I would have joined you guys but I am trying to really help the state out of finacial crisis by working. :smt010 I have a big chief smoker if you want me to smoke some for ya' At a slight charge.
