Yup... looks like filling the sturgie spot on the card won't be a hard one to fill this year.

Congrats guys! That's really awesome. I want to go out this weekend for another try.  Seems like there is definately bigger dinos to be caught. I need an uograde. My 54"er isn't cutting it anymore. We have the kids this weekend though. Hopefully the dinos will wait for me in two weekends.  Congrats again!!!

Having a convo with Tailwalk BOOM he set the hook and goes for a little slayride ***surprise fish very nice size, i will let Tailwalk tell you the story***. Tailwalk gets a nice release on his fish. 5 mins after the release BOOM Tailwalks rod goes bendo again. Tailwalk goes for the big Slayride. Soon after Chuck follows to give him a hand if needed. This fish takes Tailwalk far, wind is howling, current is ripping, and they are enroute toward Treasure Island. Tailwalk and Chuck return with a fatass fish.

My very first sturgeon... 37" green! No tap-tap-tap. Just a big tug, kinda like a shark bite. Then, just like what Ariel Sea said, ~5 minutes later another tug. At an instance I thought it was about the same size as the green, but no! This time it was a bigger pull! I got to release my anchor (thanks for the loaner crab float, ChuckE) before I get in trouble. I was towed, blown, drifted, and what-have-you. I did not have any issue until my rookie-home-made flimsy snare cable got tangled with my line , then ChuckE came to my rescue.

This is my second dino-hunt ever.  Still learning and lovin' it. Best of all, it's just right in my backyard.

I was thinking of bailing out because of the wind and just hit the archery range but thanks to Ariel Sea (The Great Motivator) for giving us the current weather report.

Many thanks to ChuckE and and Ariel Sea.

I believe Leno is peddling Chucke's old yak. Which is good because that boat has got some good fishing juju.

You betcha! I love that yak, especially for fly fishing.

Hopefully the dinos will wait for me in two weekends.

They should still be there waiting for the SturgeonQUEEN!

Awesome... I wish that I could've been there again. I got the blow by blow from Ariel and I was kicking myself. It's all good though. Awesome fish guys... I heard one of you two didn't sign up for the AOTY... tell me it isn't true???

Freddie

Ok it's true... and it was me! But I have no regrets, it still early in the year. Most of all, I had a great time.

Good luck with your interview, Dude.

Wow, nice going, Tailwalk!
2 sturgies in one day and one was a green. Did anyone get a pic by any chance?
Congrats on the keeper!

Ariel, now I see what you were talking about with that boat! You're practically in the water as it is - I can't imagine what it looked like with a big ol' dino on board as well!

The fish in the red yak is a green, check out the very pronounced spines going along the length, they'l slice you right open if you tail-grip like a white. Also a much shorter snout. Its a big one too, ive only seen em much smaller.

Jedmo
Patience Jedmo.  I was 0-for-4 YEARS for my first kayak dino, and that's realistically like more than 0-for-40 trips.  So for me to land my last two dinos within minutes of anchoring is like some crazy joke on me.

The streak of newbie/rookie luck that we're seeing right now at the OAP is completely mind blowing.  I just hope it continues.

We all should be glad to see the recent 3 fish per year limit in place to protect this unique fishery.  It may actually be working.
