Good book...

"Atmospheric Disturbances"

A novel that devolves around psycho-pathology.....
 
You will say: 
 
"Oh yeah...JD Salinger is top-of-the-heap in that genre...."....
But no.....Atmospheric Disturbances puts JD Salinger 85 dB down.
This is a totally wonderful story, extremely intelligently told.
 
Remember when you read Salinger.....???......
You had in your hand, a story that only J.D. Salinger could write.
 
With "Atmospheric Disturbances"....a book that only this Rivka Galchen person could write...
As you read it....insights....perceptions...too cool for anyone to write, really.
 
"85-dB down"....I chose that terminology-of-comparison precisely because this book offers physicists, mathematicians, wave-form and radar freeks...a level of "science-woven-in" that's well-done and will slow one down and make one parse one's way through some of those thoughts.    And where the protagonist adopts a line-of-thougt that you would not adopt, it is always a considered thing and the line-of-thought that you would have prefered is discussed and (adequately) discredited (from the protagonist's point-of-view) before the other direction is taken.
