to fish for sturgeon from the yak if you don't have an anchor system yet or would it be a waste of time?

Yes, it's possible, if you're comfortable being a contrarian.

I've seen people tied off to the duck blinds in SPB above CC

I won't say it isn't possible because I'm sure somebody has done it, but finding and catching a sturgeon is hard enough doing it the conventional way. The thing is, you want to keep your bait perfectly still and on the bottom and you want to keep a tight line so that you can detect the subtle bite. Like mickfish mentioned, you can find something to tie off to and have some success, but otherwise I would just go trout fishing instead or get your anchor set up put together soon.
Searching is half the fun: life is much more manageable when thought of as a scavenger hunt as opposed to a surprise party. -Jimmy Buffett

Anchor systems don't need to be complex...

My down and dirty way is to tie off a floating line to the back, thread the line thru a steal/brass whatever ring , and tie the other end of the line close to where I am sitting,

in my case the bungee paddle lock on my Hobie is perfect to absorb some shock from waves.

My anchor line is thread thru the ring, I feed line thru the ring, hit bottom, give proper amount of slack and tie the anchor line off to the ring, thus, slidding back to the stern of the yak when anchor has deployed...

The key here is the knot next to you is one that you can release quickly..

and of course a float at the end of your anchor line to get back your goods after your ride with Mr. Dino

Yeah, I kind of figured it would be like peeing into the wind since you are working tidal movements.
Thanks for the tips!

SBD and I backed into the weeds to fish around Monte while trying to get out of the wind. We had a couple nibbles but didn't hook up.
You really need to be stationary somehow to fish effectively. Some of those bites are really soft.

Now that is actually something I'm good at!
