SCAllen and I had a steelie drift planned today and I had been pre fishing and I told him the water was too low and Clear and I hadn't seen much happening, he decided to save the WAF and not make the long drive. I wasn't going to fish but my wife kicked me out I was driving her crazy :smt002. So I decided to go up to River and get my Kayak and trailer and scout some places on the lower river for later in the week. After doing a little yard work I decided to cross the river and fish my secret spot but there were 3 guys there so I went back up and drug the Mini-X down and started paddling up river about 50 yds above the hole I spooked a couple of fish and I watched them swim back down into the hole, so I knew right where they went but didn't want to fish them with those guys there. I tossed out the anchor cracked a beer and waited for them to leave, they had been fishing there all day and had caught nada they were fishing all the wrong spots.

As soon as they left I slipped down a little tossed out a wiggle wort and it went about 3' before it got slammed fish jumped 4' in the air and landed in a tree how it stayed on I don't know, one of the guys heard the splash turn around and said SOB we been fishing there all day with no bites. Anyway the fish put up an awesome battle it jumped 12 times and they where full body launches never left the hole but explored every inch of it. as it tired I saw it was a wild fish  so I didn't want to net it. I was able to extend my rod and beach it on the gravel bar I jumped out took a couple of shots and it was bleeding a little but swam off strongly. The guys all came back and started pounding the wrong spots again after I stopped shaking I moved to a little deeper water and on my 3rd cast I hooked up again this fish was all about going deep and only rolled a few times as I brought it along side I saw that it was another wild fish so I reached for my camera and it came off cool self release only my go to lure was gone but it wasn't the knot the line tie on the lure separated a little and the loop knot slipped off. I was really pissed I lost that lure I have caught a lot of fish on it but lucky me a few minutes later I saw it pop to the top and I waded below the hole and got it back I lost it last year and got it back so I feel really lucky. Those guys were not happy campers and took off. I fished for 2 more hours for 1 pull down on a bubble gum worm that got bit in half but I went away super happy I love Chrome and I thought I am so blessed to have 2(smallies) of my favorite fish right off my beach. Anyway I got a $hiteating grin on my face and I'm going back tomorrow am for more.

Allen please forgive me I promise to put you on some fish. O yeah what was cool was the water was so clear you could see whole fight awesome do I sound pumped?? Almost forgot here is a couple of shots you can see how low the water is how these fish swim up is beyond me, I found a smithwick too. The fish were hooked right below the dock. Both fish 28/29" 10+lbs

What a great story! I was thinking of trying lower in the river down by Monte Rio tommorrow. That is an awesome fish. You must really know the river from the sound of it. Sorry about the lure. Take it easy. Craig
