That just sucks beyond words man, I agree with Mike, this is going to be happening a lot. Everyone should be extra vigilant and keep an eye on your six-o-clock.

Unfreakinreal dude.  Thiefs are either getting more balls or just really desperate.  My buddy's garage got hit (Manteca) in broad daylight while he stepped in for a few minutes.  I couldn't imagine catching somebody in the act on my property....   :smt070

Sorry for your situation, hopefully you guys get everything back on track soon.

So sorry to hear about the theft. I think it's also a wake up call for some tough years ahead...as the economy falters, we're going to see more theft and crime. I've enjoyed being pretty relaxed about security around home here, and it's time for me to be a bit more careful.

Happy nobody was hurt though.

Best,

Paul

Oh My God!!!!

For someone to to that is just beyond words that I can think of. Really scary to think of what they were prepared to do if you had woken up and confronted them.

That puts a knot right into my stomach.  Stay on guard, sometimes thieves strike twice thinking you won't expect them.  Did someone have access to your keys? Valet? Mechanic?  If your house was locked you need to change the locks asap.  I'm sure you have thought of these things already, but we couldn't take it if you were hit again.
So sorry.

Let me second bassmanben's advice: get the credit thing taken care of first and foremost. These people can move fast. A friend of mine's purse was stolen at two p.m. and the next day at ten a.m. a woman was at her bank with a 100% completely valid looking CA drivers license that had my friend's name and address on it but with the thief's picture and a new signature instead of her own.

I believe that the three credit reporting agencies now issue passwords to individuals that must be submitted to the agencies before they will give out any credit information. That would be wise to get (for everyone, not just victims of crime).

And let me commiserate with you. I wasn't home with a fiance and child when it happened but Christmas Eve in 1985 thieves kicked in the front door of my apartment in Cambridge, MA while I was at a friend's place and made off with all the presents my mother had shipped out to me from California. I know there are worse phone calls in life but the one I received Christmas morning from her to ask how I liked the presents was sad and unpleasant. I couldn't even keep her in the dark about the theft because I had decided to wait to open them and didn't know what they were.

I'm glad you're all safe.

Gerry

Jeff...
I am truly speechless.
I know you've already been dealt some bum cards this year, but this...this is just out-fricken-rageous.  :smt013
As others said, I am so, so glad that at least nobody got physically hurt.
Take care and hope you & your family recover from this as best & quickly as possible.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU IN THE NEW YEAR.

Prior occupant.....with a key...???....

"trail cameras".....marketed about everywhere to photograph game.....they do have their value for the front walk of a man's own home.   There's actual value in knowing (seeing the photo of, being able to show a photo of, to police) individuals approaching your front door.

Man that is unbelievable, glad that everyone is safe.  Have you thought it may be someone you know?  Let's hope they are found with the car to get their ass.

I'm sorry for your loss my friend.

A personal violation of this magnitude is absolutely horrible.

WTF is this going on?

Try www. equifax.com  get the three-in-one credit alert.  Sign up for emails if your credit score changes in any way.  You should put a 3-month fraud alert on for your wife.  Or just freeze the account for now (probably the best play).  Your credit is more important than anything you lost.  Basssman is right.
