I will be making a run to the Cordell banks with a friend for Humbolt squid as soon as the seas settle down. And was toying with the idea of throwing the yak on the boat. Has any of you fished Humbolts? I would love to hear your experince. It's a little scary as thy can be a bit vicious I hear. My friends have a 25' davis based in Emeryville, so we'll have to wait for a fairly calm day as its a couple hour run to cordel.

I watched some National Geographic type piece on the Mexican fisherman who fish humbolts from small boats.  Apparently a few of the fisherman get pulled into the water and become part of the food chain.  Based on that, I would probably ditch the yak and stay on the big boat.  But then again, the coward gene runs deep in my family :smt003

I was wondering about that. I'm not wanting to do anything stupid I was just thinking it would make a nice trophy. Not interested in becoming squid bait though. Just wondered if anyone had yak fished them, If no one has I'm not crazy enough to be the first.

I caught some out there last year. they are very deep and you have to literally pull as hard as you can with tuna gear to get them up. You need your legs and back to pull them up. I'm not sure you would ever get them up from a yak. We also had a fish taken off a line by a shark while we were out there.
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?
