Didn't mark a single fish on the FF.

how many fish you think swim into that 2 foot wide cone from your FF when you are in 10 FOW?  The only time i've ever seen fish on the finder that were big, were in deeper....except, except- and ChuckE might remember this - he and i were fishing off c-camp a zilion years ago, and basically a log swam under my yak...just a nice perfect arch- that covered one end of the screen to the other-- the lead end was in the mud...Chuck saw it too about a minute later.

Let me ask a newbie question (I have nailed sturgeon off party boats, but it has been a while).  Can they hear you?  If you are fishing with a buddy in 10' of water, can you talk? Clearly you would not want to clunk the deck of the kayak or splash around too much.  But do you guys who fish for sturgeon a lot, think they can hear sound?  Are you careful about casting?

Yes.  The shallower the water, the more stealthy one should be.  (in my opinion)

I don't think they can hear you talk, but i would not clunk around for sure. I'm even pretty careful about lowering the anchor, and moving about in the yak...mind you- i've only caught a few now (3) from the yak, so i'm definitely no expert

I have caught lot's of sturgeon off my power boat, but yet to catch my first from a kayak. I have a cousin that I have taken out for sturgeon at least 10 times. He's a pretty loud person and I have yet to bring a sturgeon to the boat when fishing with him :smt013
  We always joke about it, but I do think the noise on board amplifies through the boat hull into the water.

here is the standard recipe i use for smoking;
5-10lbs of 2"x1"x6" sturgeon hunks
1 cup non iodized salt
1 cup sugar
2 qt water
palm full of white pepper
palm full of black pepper
1/2 palm of cayenne pepper
1/2 palm of of dried thyme
pinch of basil and parsley
i smoke this for 8 hrs, 2-3 loads of chips
when cured, i can taste the pepper but it is not spicy

this is great for big pieces, but rockfish and small stuff get too salty
