Anybody up for a sturgeon attempt this Sunday? I'm definitely going out this Sunday, but I haven't decided where yet.

If the rivers are blown, I might chase fish with you sunday.
With regards to where to fish, you don't have to worry about mud at Monty. Come in too late at CC and it's a mudfest.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

I'd like to catch my first Sturgeon before the end of the year!
I'm new to this so I'll meet up anywhere anytime.
Possible bait shop's between Santa Rosa the decided put in would be a world of help.

I'm leaning toward Montezuma, only because I am familiar with the water there. However, I've never caught a sturgeon, and every time I have gone to Montezuma the only fish I have caught have been striper and catfish. I've been making a serious effort to bag my first sturgeon for about a year and a half now without success, but I figure "I''m due" for a sturgeon from that place  :smt044

I'd like to try China Camp sometime, but I'm thinking I only want to go there with somebody who understands the conditions. I've never fished China Camp from a yak, but I know the currents can be tough if you aren't familiar with the area.

I'd rather fish in familiar waters than take a chance.

China Camp is actually a pretty straight forward place, it's open water so the wind can be an issue, and mud slogging is an issue when the tides gets down around a positive 1ft, for me the best launch has been right at the China Camp beach, straight out and northwest a little.  Even though it's relatively shallow and open, the current can really move though. Use a little caution and common sense and even a first time attempt ought to be OK.

If you do decide to go out of China Camp on Sunday, let me know!  :smt006 Otherwise I plan on heading to Montezuma Slough.

there is bait right behind the MickeyD at the Grizzly Island rd. intersection.
there is also one somewhere in town(suisun) Google it!
there are many places to eat at that intersection...fuel too.

the 'zuma launch is about as easy as it gets!....10 min. paddle and you'll have them under your yak and all around you.
If i'm really hurting for some more self-abuse&frustration? I might see you there!
I'll bring your FW pole too!

That would be great if you can make it Adam! I'll post some hookup details on Fri/Sat, but tentatively I am planning on launching around 10:00 am at Montezuma.

I wish it was a Saturday so I could tag along with you guys. Other wise, another
Dino hunt on shore for me locally (Vallejo). Sundays are family day, almost no
fishing at all.

Jed, I don't know if you're available next Monday or Tuesday, but on one of those days I was going to launch out of Vallejo in the Napa River and go upstream around Mare Island to scout for sturgeon holes and fish for a bit. You should come along if you can! On Google Earth I'm seeing a spot just north of the Hwy 37 bridge that I would really like to get a look at with the fish finder.

I have just responded to your other post as well. I am definitely interested of
spending some time looking for some honey holes for sturgeon. Lots of oldtimers
shared some fishing stories with me about the old pier just below the 37 bridge
that is no longer there. Perhaps we can spend an hour or so at one location and
then move on to another.

I've heard the same thing about the old pier near HWY 37 from several of the old timers on PFIC that I fish with. Hopefully the area will produce for us!
