Very nice hand cannon!  That's going to be fun rig for hogs!!!

Since the election I've been adding to my collection as well.

Nice!

This bab boy is on my wish list. Springfield XD(M), 40 cal.

Just hopin' and waitin' for 'em to make a modified, Cali legal cartridge. Not the best pic, but it's the only one I could find on a site that wasn't blocked from work!

I put about 40 rounds through the Encore today getting it all zeroed in... first at 50 yards, then at 100.

The recoill is stout but totally managable.  You can really feel the Pachmayr rear grip absorb the shock and take the sting out of the recoil.  I'm also impressed with the accuracy... I feel every bit as comfortable shooting this at 100 yards off the bench as any rifle I own.

Next will be practicing from different "real world" shooting positions and maybe reaching out to 200 yards.

Here's a short clip from today of me shooting the .338 federal with a bog-pod bi-pod rest in the standing position.  100 yards

I think the fact that I'm a big guy with big hands helps with this gun.  My father in law took one shot from the bench and that was enough for him. Had I taken video of that, you would have seen something U G L Y.  He bruised his elbow and got a small cut on one of his fingers.  He had been watching me shoot it for quite a while, but still he wasn't prepared for the recoil.

If you don't mind me asking, why hunt with a pistol?  Do you get a longer season, like bowhunting?  Less weight to carry around?  Or just more of a challenge?

I'd like to go after pigs sometime, but I'll be using a Winchester 94 if so.

Mostly just something different and more of a challenge.  There may be a little bit of weight savings, but not much.

Here's another video clip of us having fun with the Encore .338 Federal.  Did a trigger job with the Bellm TC 2-2.5 pound spring and it made a world of difference in accuracy... Erik still likey!

10-4 on the lead free zones... I won't be going there so no worries.

If I have the chance, I'll get some video footage tomorrow... might be entertaining.

This cartridge is a .308 casing necked up to accept a larger .338 caliber bullet.

No Judd... I don't reload... maybe a future hobby.

Scott... I was referring to cartridge prices.

I have always wanted a TC contender.  :smt118I must see the video and a picture of the muzzle blast from that cannon.  :smt003

I think some shot-gun only areas will let you use a handgun too.  It depends on the local laws though.  I carried a redhawk one day deer hunting, but it turned out the scope on it needed a fairly bright day to work compared to a rifle scope - I guess the long eye relief doesn't collect light as well.  I switched to a different gun because about half the shots in the kind of hunting I was doing come in the gray of dawn/dusk.  If that's the case pig hunting you should check that your scope works in the shooting conditions you expect.  Might want a shoot through mount or something if it doesn't so you can fall back to iron sights.

Nice thing about the encore is you can get a shoulder stock for it, but then it's no longer a handgun...
