As sharing is a big part of this site, I figure that a waterproof camera is an important piece of gear, hence putting this post in the gearing up forum.

Remember too, that if you don't want to spring for a waterproof digital, there are waterproof disposables, and even carefully handled nonwaterproof disposables, that can be developed onto CDs pretty cheap.

So enough of that (that being trying to get more pics of other peoples adventures to look at)

My story:

Bought an Olympus 770 SW on 11-16-07, because it had a 33 ft depth waterproof rating as well as a 5 ft drop shockroof rating.

On 11-24-08, 8 days after the warranty expired I was ab diving and taking pics at a depth of 10-12 ft, camera stopped working, got home and found about 3 drops of salt water inside.

Called Olumpus the next day 11/25 (Tuesday before Turkeyday) to see if they would cover it even though it was out of warranty,

First tech I spoke to said sorry but they couldn't help with that, I asked if there was someone else I could complain to, he said I needed to talk with the Customer Care department and promptly transferred me into a black hole,

I called back, got a different tech, said sorry again that Olympus probably wouldn't cover it, so again I asked if there was someone else I could complain to and also noted that I had previously been transferred to a black hole,

The second tech told me that was because that those people wouldn't be back in the office until the following Monday (after a long Tday holiday I guess).

Called their office Monday, got no answer, called Tuesday and got ahold of Mildred, she listened and immediately without hesitation said they'd honor the warranty,

Bottom line, I have my repaired camera in my hand and it works fine.

The original battery dried out and it charged up OK, memory card was unscathed as well, see the last pic I took below.

Took a couple of calls but after getting the right department on the phone they took care of it immediately, took about 14 days from my door and back again, not bad considering I sent to NY for the repair.

Right on, Dale!  I thought that story was going down as a bad review, but way to go on persisting until it came out positive.  Good to know for us Olympus owners.   :smt001

Thanks for the info.

Just recently received a Stylus 850 SW as B-Day gift and have loved it. :smt007
Nice to see they have a customer service department with real customer service.

Now if any one could teach Dish Network about customer service I would have no problems.  :smt044
