After last weeks Hate-Trip, I was offered by a fellow brethren, to show me a few of his smallie spots that produce in the spring. He was clear that it produces in the spring,but maybe we could get lucky on a few. My response was" I only need ONE!"
We arrive to the foggy lake and I am VERY optimistic about my chance to finally hook a smallmouth(7 days spent hunting across Northern California so far)
Not long after we hit a few select spots, Champ has hit his target!! He was "LizardLounging" when the Smallie smashed!

Champ was hootin'&luvin it up good...i was so happy for him as well, for I knew(hoped) my turn was nearing. Well it didn't happen at that rocky point, or the next rocky point, nor the next point that was rocky either! WTF!!!
I followed Champ around, like right behind, next to and even snaked him a few times, but things were getting greyer&grey'r for me and my hopes.

i threw senkos, crawdads and soon the towel was to follow. I saw a few on the FF and you know how that always RAISES the HOPES, but it was just not my day.

...then all of a sudden I see a RockyPoint like no other point with rocks!! I paddle to it...drop the lizard and began to "lounge". Feeling that this point is gonna be the one, I watch the rod tip closely and guess what?! 

All of a sudden that island got soooooo much prettier(pic1)

and that BaldEagles' surroundings got waaay better looking too! (pic2)

and that 15"Smallmouth, fought as hard as any sixteen incher ever would have!

and then Lino(my new best buddy:smt008) peddaled up and got him some luvin too...on the FLY ROD!!! (sorry Champ, you're down to#2 now)

and we all got some love...Champ got more than we did, but "WE" didn't care...WE hit our target and that's all that mattered.

The ride home was filled with joy and I don't even remember doing the driving....I was sooo Fricken HAPPY!!

Woohoo! I'm so glad you finally got one. I actually love that
lake. You really have to search that place though and spend a lot of
time. Looks like the water is very low by the look of the island on
the background. Thanks again for an awesome report and pictures
and the laugh.

Lino "tailwalk" sure knows Berryessa.  He's been talking up the smallie action there, so Adam and I took him up on it.  We all knew the action would be slow this time of year, but it still produced.  I caught 2 smallies (13.5 and 14.5 inchers) and a small LMB.

He said he was gonna "make me" love this lake before end of day, and I sure DO!
