It comes out bubbly like champagne and the ladyfolk dig it.  ;)  Best part is you get to skip washing the carboy for a batch and it's not much work to just dump that all in.  If you don't use the sludge from a batch of beer, the yeast will need yeast nutrient because apple juice isn't as balanced a diet as malt for the yeast.  I think I'm going to make something like that this weekend if the steam beer that's fermenting right now is ready to bottle.  That yeast is tasty, but I use it in the 50's to low 60's so it's kinda slow compared to ale yeasts.

Love the tile work in the background.  The keg is a great idea too. :smt044

Nice report, Josh - that's a killer setup.  I brewed 8 batches back in '94, but then moved from the Bay Area and stopped brewing.  I carted around about 8 cases of empy Liberty Ale bottles from two rentals to my current home before realizing a few years back that I'd not be brewing again any time soon, and I finally recylced those bottles!   :smt003

I scrubbed the fishing for today due to the nasty cold/wind combo.  This thread just inspired me to spend $60 on a variety of beers though!   :beer2

Bow down before the one you serve, you're going to get what you deserve!

I did get the cider in too.  ;)

Did I mention that it's good for the WAF?  It makes the house smell like a candy store and she appreciates me taking an interest in the cleanliness of the kitchen on the odd weekend.  ;)  If I can make the case that I'm saving money she'd thrilled too...   ;)

Stay AWAY from both American brands, Sharps & O'Douls

Years ago I once made a batch of my own dark malt beer.
I used the best materials and brewed according to careful lab-process.
But I made one important change in ingredients to the primary fermenter:
I added two pounds of well-ground Hills Brothers coffee.
I came up with a beer so dark and thick, it would hang up in the neck
of the bottle for two seconds before it would begin to pour.

I attributed the incredible quality, smoothness and taste of this
original beer invention to my additon of the coffee.

You see, it was the caffeine, that kept the yeast-beasties up late into
the night working harder and harder and harder than any other yeasts
had ever worked in any beer brewed ever before.

You can take from me...
It's the Gods' Truth.

Sounds something like lagunitas' cappuccino stout.  For several centuries there was a 'purity law' in Germany, which required that beer could only be made with water, barley and hops.  That's a big part of why beer traditionally isn't adulterated with other flavors.

I'm not too picky when it comes to beer...as long as it's not Coors, Bud, Miller or any of the other crappy domestics.  My fridge can often be found holding Fat Tire, Anchor Steam, Pacifico, Singha, Eichigo (a nice Japanese beer that I waste money on when I don't feel like settling for Sapporo or Kirin), Guiness, Red Stripe, or any number of microbrews...I can't seem to stop myself from trying something new.  After the first time this thread ran on NCKA I was inspired to try several of the winter brews that were mentioned by you guys, and I was not disappointed.  Clearly, fishing knowledge and beer knowledge go hand in hand.  :smt003

Can't forget to mention "red beer".  It's not for everyone, and it's sure to piss off the purists out there (you will get over it!).  Also a great way to kick off a football sunday.....

Take a big frosted mug and pour in a small can of spicy V8.  Then fill almost to top with your domestic of choice, squeeze in some lime juice and hit with some tobasco.  Now you are ready for kick off (this is ok to drink before noon because you are getting a full serving of veg!!!).  I tried the premixed bud light/clamato, but it is a little on the salty side and needs more kick......
