Rod leash

   Hey NCKAers
   I went down to my local ACE hardware store to buy some rope to do a rigging project I have and the rope came with a nylon strap that Velcroed around the rope and had a plastic D-ring to hang it from the display. That strap works perfectly around the cork grip on a fishing rod and then you just attach the leash to the D-ring. The strap works so well I went back and bought more rope just to get the strap. I asked if they just sold the strap and they said it only comes with the rope. Check it out works great.

 Here's my down and dirty solution......

You can buy bulk velcro strips with adhesive backing, I take a male/female piece each about 8" long and stick one through the loop of a leash (like danglin showed) then stick the other piece of velcro to it.  You can then wrap the velcro around a rod or paddle handle.

You don't want your leashes to be too strong IMO, it should break before you or your kayak does so the damage in a bad surf incident is minimized.  Things could get ugly if you got a rope leash wrapped around you and a wave picks up your kayak.

Rod leash...  I'm thinking I need to branch out and start using those next season.  Cool ideas here.

I bought some of that poly rope for the same application. I liked the little velcro strap, and wondered where I would use it once I'd used up the rope. Now I Know!

Same here...   

   The clips are Scotty down rigger clips I get them at Outdoor Pro Shop in Rohnert Park. They're at the front counter they sell them as key rings for .99 with a split ring attached.
