Went out of Half Moon Bay Sat and Sun.  Fished from 6:30am to 11am each day.  Sat was calm and clear for the first hour.  Then got a little breeze on the water.  Got a 23" cabbie and 4 rockcod.  Release another small rockcod.  Lost a 15 to 18 lb. ling at gaff. Missed the gaff and had the diamond jig (4 to 5 oz) wrap around the gaff.

Decide that the gaff gap was too wide.  Put it in a vise and took care of that.  A wide opening is OK for halibut.  But, a ling is alot small target.  Not as wide.

Paddling in and there was a boat in the mouth of the harbor.  They had a nice 20 to 25 lb. hali on live bait.

Sunday was calmer.  But, had fog on the water.  Got a 25" ling, 19" cabbie and two rockcod.  Lost a big shark to a diamond jig tip with squid.
Had it on for about 10 sec.  thought it was a big ling.  Backed the drag down and it took off running.  Made me do a 180 deg. in about a sec.  Lucky, it was flat because I could have flipped.  Broke the 30 lb test like it  was nothing.

You can launch right at HMB Kayak company in the harbor. Paddle out through the jaws, hang a right, then fish the kelp beds near the green buoy. If the swell is down you can fish right off the point as well on Maverick's reef.

When paddling out stay on the left or right side of the mouth.  Does not matter which side.  But do not paddle in the middle of the mouth.  Boats will run you over.

When you get outside of the mouth.  Head towards the right side.  You should see the green bouy or if it is foggy...you should hear it.  It is bouy #3.  I usually start there or the next green bouy towards the north.  You should see kelp paddies.  I would not fish to close to the kept.  You will get hung up alot.  If it is calm..then you can get closer.

Also, there is a rock  that stick out during a low tide heading out to the green #3 bouy.  It is not in line but, a little right.  Half way between the harbor and bouy.  There are some other reef out there.  Even in clam conditions.  These reef will kick up sneaker  waves.

I usually leave around 6:30am.  Should be light enough for boats to see you.  If there is fog I bring a 6 volt flashlight and always have my whistle on my vest.  If you hear boats around you and it is foggy.  Try to stay near the kelp paddies.
