I'd been thinking of buying a new bike but was putting it off just because of the current economic situation.

Today I called Mike's Bikes in Palo Alto and asked if they had the Rockhopper Comp Disc available in a 17".  I figured they probably wouldn't and I'd just be content that I made the call.  Of course I called and just like I expected they didn't have one in stock but the woman said she would get one in the shop for me to test ride...so I gave her my number.  About an hour later she called to say it was my lucky day and one had been delivered about 20 minutes after we got off the phone.

I took off from work a bit early to go check it out.  The ride felt much better than when I tested the 15" and after a bit of mental back and forth I decided that I should just go ahead and buy it.

Here's what she looks like: http://www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/2009/bikes/8192-26_RH_comp_charcoal_l.jpg

Now that I've got it here it's a bit agonizing to see her just sitting nice and clean in my living room...I think I'll take her to Lake McSwain on Thanksgiving day to cruise around a bit and get her a bit dirty.  If not then maybe I'll take her out on a trail over the weekend.

I know we have a lot of riders here, anyone interested in going out for a ride soon?

Bassmanben and I will be on the Merced below McSwain on Turkey Day morning.  Bring a radio and give a shout out.  Would love to see the exercise machine! :smt002

Heck, better yet, tow your kayak behind the new bike and drop in for some fishing.  I'll be there until 11 AM.

Happy Riding

Michael

Me too.  I use to be addicted to pedaling on and offroad, and that's what got me interested in Hobies.

Awesome looking bike Pacifico. I am not really a rider myself but, I bought an
inexpensive Specialized bike to ride with my coworkers one day. They took me
to China Camp trail for the first time. I like that place a lot.

I was but I noticed how you were looking at me the other day when I was slipping on my wet suit.

I thought your little girlie knees would hurt if you went riding?

I'll be in the central valley for turkey day.  Maybe next weekend?

They told me not to dive either but the way I out hustled you in the ab grab makes me think a bike won't be any different  :smt003

I started riding to work a few times a week to work.  I have a Cannodale F4 MTB and love it.  I had always had cheaper bikes and were never happy with them, this shifts really smoothly.

Congrats on your new ride Primo!

Crystal Springs is a nice place to start out or even the Foster City bike trail along the Bay and if your ready for some technical single track = WATERDOG trail in Belmont is da bomb! I'd be more than happy to give you a tour :smt002 You can also pack a telescopic rod and reel and do some fishing at waterdog pond as well :smt002

Sounds good primo, if it gets too cold to be on the water for your wednesday night paddles maybe we can switch it up a bit and go for a ride.

Looks like a couple of us will be hooking up for a ride at China Park next weekend (12/6 or 12/7), if you're off you should join us.
