Beautiful day at the lake! Cast of characters included - Ryan/Walrus, John/jdyak , Mike/sturgy , shark attack Dan and Gabe/gabekap......

Gabe - nice seeing you again brother :smt006 It's been about 4 years since we've fished together!!!

Unfortunately for Marv/shicken, his kayak did not pass the "inspection"...which was kind of BS :smt011 cause his kayak was in better shape than mine  :smt011 But Marv and JD stuck around anyway and grilled some AWSOME hotlinks for the crew. THANKS MARV!! :smt006 That was very cool of you!!

some pics....

pic1: Shark Attack Dan had a nice day with his limit of trout on his new Trident 11 (which he won at BAM IV) here's the first victim of the day...
pic2: I got a couple of hits but finally stuck one on the hail mary troll back to the launch...

Nice, those trout look SO much better than the ones in Chabot and Quarry....  I need to get out there.

Was the inspection failure for mud, water, or ?

Gabe was kind enough to take us to his spot and the rest of the crew caught some trout - Thanks Gabe!!! I'll let the rest chime in on their catch - let's just say everyone got their share of action :smt002

Here's a photo of Hetch Hetchy group campsite - as you can see, the water is HIGH :smt007 After the Lake Sonoma trip, I'll post up for the Fish 'n Chill at Del Valle II :smt001

Eric, it was for the Zebra Mussel (spell?) inspection. There was also a boat in front of me that was turned away because there was a puddle of water on his 12 ft aluminum boat - AND it was muddy as well.

Launch fee, parking fee, fishing fee and inspection fee = $15.00. I wonder what they'll think of next?
Ryan and I were thinking that they might start probing our butt holes pretty soon :smt011 Will we entertain that idea? Find out on the next trip of Ryan and Joels excellent adventures  :smt003

I realize what the inspection was for, but why was the yak turned away?  Water in the hull?

Thanks for the report and some great pictures Mooch. It is almost the end for the
rock fish season. I guess I should start dusting off my trout poles.

Even though I failed inspection, it wasn't a wasted trip.  I got to explore a new place to fish and camp, and hang out with some good people.

Looking forward to fishing there soon.

Schicken,

What exactly did they nail your yak on?

good job fellas.....i guess i'll post a reply on this thread, since there were "other" people there....my "old" friend Joel dosen't reply to ANY of MY posts anymore :smt010, So i'm repaying him the dis-favor. :smt006 HiBrudah!

One day the fish are hungry and dumb. The next day, they've somehow obtained a college degree w/20-20 vision!   :smt012
Thanks for instilling the belief that there are fish in that lake that chase lures once in while, for some, not ALL!(like me :smt013:smt005

Glad you guys got into some fish. Looks like good times. I hope to make it back to del valle very soon. I absolutely love that place.

I too am very interested in why the yak failed inspection. I hosed down my kayak and scrubbed it a few days before I went on saturday. No issues for me.

Good times on the Water..

My boat was completely dry on the inside and the ranger pulled the front plug as it was on my truck deck down.  Not a drop of water.  Then I unstrapped the kayak so he could open the hatch and reach inside.  There was some condensation from the kayak being rained on the night before on top of the truck.  He was concerned about sand in the hull and that it was kinda damp.  He almost didn't pass my kayak I believe, as he gave a look like it was marginal in passing.

My advice is to air out the hull a couple of days before you go to Del Valle and also wipe down the hatch area so it is clean.  He also checked the pfd's and made sure they were dry.

I understand why they have to do this, but if your not prepared for all of this, there is a good chance you will get turned away.

I've been to many of these inspections, with a wet inside. After tilting the yak forward,  I just dried it up with a napkin, along with any other wetness that i saw or felt.....THEN take it to get inspected.
I passed with flyin' colors everytime :smt002  butYOUneverKNOW?
