I was doing some fact finding on the recent Herpes Carp Kill off up at Clear Lake, wanted to see if it spread to other fish, people, dogs whatever and I happened across this site NCCC NorCal Carp Club. http://www.norcalcarpclub.com/ and an old friend is on the Home Page.
What is interesting is they preach C&R something I never thought about with carp, in some lakes they catch the same fish over and over.

Mike,

I believe you're referring to KHV (Koi Herpesvirus) which effects koi and common carp.   I hadn't heard about the recent outbreak at clear lake.  Anyway, it doesn't pose a threat to non-carp such as yourself or your beloved pets.

We've seen how "involved" Mike's dog gets out there, so I'm sure he was looking out for poochie!   :smt002  ...and you'd probably better not make out with those carp either, Mike!   :smt003

Seems that the plague that hit the c-lake carp has run its course. For awhile there were hundreds floating in every bay I paddled into but thats no longer the case.
The lake "monster" is thought to lurk in soda bay and the south end of konocti bay where I had my encounter. Its possible that there may be 2 creatures but I suspect that it is traveling via the lava tubes beneath Mt konocti. Id put my money on it being some big ancient herbivore and dogs are safe to swim in the big bass pond.
