With the weather moving in this weekend I'm thinking that the topline trout bite should be taking off any time now. It's supposed to rain this weekend so the water temp should drop significantly which is good for the bite, and I've always had the best fishing when it is raining.

Any brave souls interested in a little trout action?  :cold

Jay -

If my company picnic gets cancelled I might be there on Saturday. BTW, congrats on the yellowtail.  :smt006

Cool, my preference is for Saturday too!  :smt006

I'll plan on arriving @8:00 am. Instead of fighting the line at the launch ramp I normally park at the end of the parking lot opposite the ramp and just wheel my boat down to the shore and launch. It's going to be wet so be sure to have your rain gear!  :toothy2:

i might be game.  don't want to sit around moping all weekend about the weather, might as well get into it.  Temp wise it'll be a high of 67 but shows high winds.  Hardcore!

saturday sounds good - but what about boat inspection if we are driving in the rain?

oh man, that's a great point.   :smt012

Just off the phone with Jeff Manly, who apparently runs the inspection program.  Rainy days are a "grey area" and they are still working out how to deal with it, but he tells me we will not get turned away because of rainwater.  It is up to the discretion of the inspectors, but he says they will be looking in hatches mostly, and will call me if things change.

He mentioned if it's raining they will be looking at your history, so if you were last in salt you should be golden.

i wonder what they would say about people who were last in the delta?

I would be bringing my brand new boat so I doubt they can complain about that.

Thanks a lot for the info Eric, it'll make a big difference as to whether it's worth the drive!

Thanks for checking on that! Saltwater was my last time out, so I should be good to go.

Just note that standing water in a hull or hatch would probably fail an inspection, salty or not.

At my local lake, Loch Lomond, when it's open, people are screwed if it rains.  I've been told that if the vessel has any moisture on it, it won't be allowed on the water.  I planned to fix that, by wrapping the tail end, (that sits outside of my campershell) with a tarp. But, fortunately, I had great weather when I was on the lake during open season.
Sounds like the inspection team there is a little more forgiving.

Good luck gentlemen.  I'm walking to support a measure for my school district although I know where my mind will really be.  Look forward to the report.
