Went out to South end of Sunset st.  beach a few weekends ago for some surf perch, trying my new Gulp plastics, (pile worms, sand crabs, crabs, etc..) had no hits at all.  While switching to a grub, as I lifted my pole,to resume fishing, the bail must have bumped the log I was sitting on, because I heard it "twang" off the log.   :smt013  Recovered the bail, well, I didn't have my multi-tool (For the Phillips head screwdriver) for repair, so I was done after about an hours worth of casting, move, cast some more.  Up at the truck  I removed the covers on the bail mechanisms and tried to put the bail ends back in.  looks like a hole for one side of the bail is worn.  The bail does not stay anchored to the reel now, and will continue to fall out.
It was a relatively new, (hardly used reel since purchase) so I need another one now.  I'm to too broken up about the reel though, back when I got it, it was a display model (A big shakespear  reel) and the gal behind the counter couldn't locate its box, (which I later saw on a shelf, $69) so she let me have it for $19.  The store was having a 10% sale also I got the thing for $17.  I might try a few small globs of JB weld on the bail ends to hold the bail in.  Maybe I'll be able to band-aid it back into operation.
Kinda hoped it would have lasted a little longer.  If the JB doesn't work, I'm going to try using my Shinamo 4000 see how it handles tossing a 3oz egg.

Be careful using a FW spinner at the beach...btdt.  I ruined an EXPENSIVE Quantum PT doing exactly the same thing.  Fortunately Alan was however able to fix it but that wasn't cheap either...there IS a downside to reels with 10 jillion bearings.

My Shimano 4000 tosses 3oz'ers without any trouble so you should be fine.  :smt004
You don't quit playing because you get old, you get old because you quit playing...

I'm not to worried about ruining this particular reel, it's a big reel, the spool is maybe 3.5"- 4" dia. It might have 1 bearing in it somewhere!  :smt044.  If I can get the darn bail to remail in it's arms I'll continue using it.  I clean it up & lube it  really well when I get home afterwards, (Soak it with WD40) and I keep the reel off the sand to begin with so it's cleanup is not bad (So far)

Thats good to know about my S4000.  I used to use it for Bass, so the heaviest I used to toss with it was maybe 3/4oz
