I just saw Mako !'s pics and all I can tell you is that What a day' difference makes. Today I left Petaluma at 6:00 am and drove to Stillwater campground to meet up with Jim aka Redyak. We launched at about 8 I believe. Real foggy. Visibility around acouple hundred yards, maybe. The water was real clear at around 20+ft. So I thought OH BOY this should be sweet. No not sweet. Wind started increasing from the south/ southwest until it reached15knots. Making for a difficult drift with 6oz leadheads. Total score for fish were 2 blues for Jim and a big fat O for your truly. We got off the water at 11:00 went up to the camp. Ate a little and got the dive gear ready. We then took off for horseshoe cove. We hiked down the creek trail at the boundary and swam out 200yards and north 200 yards to dive in water that ranged between 15ft and 20ft. I got a nice limit with the big ab of the day only around 9 inches. Water was 10 to 15 ft of viz. What really blows my mind that with more frequency than I care to admit, every time I leave the gun in the truck I see fish and when I bring it? You know. I saw a beautiful vermillion maybe 23 inches just under a rock in 20ft. The fish looked me right in the eye and now to think about it, it was so damn cute just sittin there I dont know if I would have shot it or not. I must be getting old.

Nice report - yak fishing and a separate dive run in the same day is an accomplishment in itself.  WTG!   :smt001

Thanks for the post ravensblack. Sorry no fish for you. At least the 9" ab made up
for it and the good camp food as well.

Good diving with you again Craig. I would say good fishing too but it definitely wasn't. Seemed like it just wasn't in the cards for us that day. Sunday morning wasn't foggy but it was still overcast and a bit colder. I awoke with a clogged/painful ear and opted to sleep in. I'm hoping to head up there once or twice in november and will give you a ring when I see a weather window of opportunity. Maybe November 15th at the O.C. with Bloodbath and crew.   jim/redyak

I don't know how they know if you are packing a gun or not, but they do.  It never fails.  no gun = seeing lots of big fish.  It's in your dive "energy".  The trick is to learn to dive like you are a sight seeing all the time, and then.....BAM.

Nice Abs anyway Craig.  You didn't miss a slaughter on Sunday by the way.  IT was okay, but the wind was making things not so fun for us too......I'll post a quick report on it.

Hope you got the boat work done Sunday,

Later,

Norm
