Bloodbath here! Anyone planning on getting a final dive in for the season at Horseshoe Cove at Salt Point?
Planning on getting my last abs of the season out there, and some spearfishing. November 15 and 16 are the tentative dates. Cabezp and Solsrf1 are down to go too.
This is our last chance to get in those beatiful sights before it closes next season.

Count me in! Fingers crossed and knockin on wood that conditions are good. Will actually be down for most any weekend day between now and the end of the season for diving. Even high tide days would be cool. I have a serious fish/ab imbalance in my freezer. Need to get back in the ocean to fix it.   jim/redyak

Bloodbath here!
Sounds like we are getting a crew together. Sweet!
Any good campsites near the area? Haven't camped that far north. What's the scoop?

I may be up for a one day trip if the conditions are good.  I haven't dove horseshoe so it would nice to do a first and last as Brian calls it.  Since I don't see myself going there with a NO TAKE restriction.

Ravensblack chime in here with some intell on which side of the cove to dive etc. that Bloodbath and company should dive.

As far as camping I'd recommend Salt Point, Ocean Cove or Stillwater Cove; all three of these are closer than Gualala to the north.

Stillwater Cove is the best with flush toilets and hot showers, but the Ranger can get strict at times which can be good and bad. (Maybe a subject for a new thread)

Ocean cove has the group camp sites. That might be cool to get and see some new faces around a camp fire. I have dove this area alot but have not ever dove horse shoe before. It is duck season for me but that is the slow time of the year. So I will be planning to be there to. It will be good to see the NCKA crew there.

Stillwater is my favorite and never any issues with the camp host or rangers , just follow the posted rules ! Found the Ranger/EMT to be quite helpful and friendly .This  time of the year you should not need a reservation , if for some reason you can't get into SW , Ocean Cove is just a mile or so north and is huge . Never stayed there ( Wifes insistence ) but it looked fine to me , she is just spoiled staying at Stillwater !

A plus is the Ranger/EMT lives on site , covienant for dumb a$$es that fall on slippery rocks , DUH !

Not to Highjack, but, when we stay at Stillwater we always feel out which mood the Ranger is in. We don't call him Prozak for nothing. He has been our best buddy one day, sitting down for chicken wings, and then almost subjected us to a strip search the next with no memory of the previous day.  That being said, Stillwater is always our first choice for previous mentioned reasons.

Never tried camping at Stillwater but I have loved both Salt Point and Ocean Cove for years. Ocean Cove is great since it has supplies and oysters on the weekend always available and nice launch conditions plus the fact that a group can all get together easily without reservations. Salt Point is also great for good dive a calm days out front and good supply of mussels to gather in season . I love their fish cleanin gstation and the group site is very nice except for the no Dogs policy. We have it reserved every year at the end of Oct 24,25 and 26th this year and have fo rthe last 14 years but this could be our last here. Plan on hitting Horseshoe for one last time that weekend if all works out. Stop by an djoin us if in the area.

DrHabanero ,  What is their dog policy - NO DOGS ALLOWED ? If so that would totally rule them out  for me , my little Jack Russell X goes everywhere I go ! What do they think they got there , a 3 or 4 star rating ?

If its horseshoe you want then I am going to be there tommorrow at around 8:30 am I dont know what the tide is and I dont care high tide is the best with the kelp being thick this year. I am going to meet jimm aka redyak at either stillwater or ocean cove at 7:30 am. We will leave from there to the north end of salt point aka horseshoe. We will try to enter the water at the property line and then kick1/4 mi up intyo richardsons and then dive between 10 an 25 ft. Looking for big abs and fish. The viz today was 20+. So if you want it dont wait till nov because you just might miss it.Craig 7077659902 call me tonite if you want to cravan up in the am. Later

Bloodbath here! Ocean Cove is dog friendly. There's gonna be plenty of space this time of year. Are we voting now?

Bloodbath , my error , thought DrH was talking about Ocean Cove , THANKS for your reply ! I've noticed a non-uniformity of dogs laws in different coastal State Parks , anybody know why ?

I believe the reason for the no dogs in the group site only ( rest of the park is ok ) is because there are a lot of deer and other critters they like to protect. Whatever they just love to fu*$ up a fun time by not lettting me bring my pooch here so I will probably jusy visit the group camp and get my own site in the park so Brody can have fun too. he has more fun than me anyway
