First the fishing report:

Headed out into the delta to find the waterways filled with FLW pro's pre-fishing (pic 1) for next week's Tournament.  Most that I talked to said that the fishing was slow, with scattered fish throughout the day.  Saturday I launched around 12:30 and had released a limit of keeper fish (1-3 pounders) within two hours.  This was when it was overcast.  When the sun came out, the bite turned off.  My first and biggest fish of the weekend was just under 3 pounds (pic 2).  I ended up with 6 bass on Saturday and 7 on Sunday, all the same cookie-cutter sized 1-2 pounds each (pic 3).  I caught all on crankbaits, most on a crawdad color.  Most of the fish had a redish hue in their mouth and gullet from crunching crawdads--and they were all fat and healthy.  I tried to troll for some stripers, but they were not around.

When I got home on Saturday, I was not paying attention--my mind on "auto-pilot" apparently, and drove into my parking slot with the kayak on top.  I knew this was going to happen sooner or later...I heard a scraping sound and a crunch.  After slowly backing out, I inspected the carnage.  The yak was undamaged (a testimony to Hobie), the carport was fine, but the towers on my roof shifted and crunched a good sized dent into my roof (pic 4).  I feel like such an idiot, but like I said, I knew it would happen eventually.  I'll be kicking myself over this for weeks.  At least my yak was undamaged.

Have a good week and drive safe  :smt011

Thats the shits. You are in luck though. I happen to do bodywork at a shop in Petaluma. I dont know where you are but thatwill probably cost you around 1000.00 dollars. Sorry about that. You have a couple of options. 1, you could turn it into your insurance. I dont know what you deductible is but if you turn it in you probably won't see an increase in premiums. Check with your agent. If you turn it in a good reputable shop will want to remove that side glass so it insures proper  adhesion for the paint so it never peels away.2, pay cash and dont have the window removed and see if a shop will guarantee the work from peeling or fading. The whole roof will have to be painted. Its not possible to just paint an area on the roof as there is no body line to tape off to.Damn nice job on the fish and if you didn't trash your kayak to boot thats a plus.

Hey Bryan sorry about your car but at least you had a nice weekend fishing. From your pics it looked like the wind was not a factor, to bad about pb traffic. There was a lot Hobies at BAM and the prospect of fishing hands free and being able to hold position has got me sold. If your going out in the next 2 weeks hit me up. Luv that Bass fishing

Thanks for the info ravensblack...not sure if I will call that in to my insurance co. or not.  Shifty1...it was a bit windy, gusty at times, but managable.  I'll be heading out again both weekends.

Also...are there any experts at fish id...I caught this fish, which may be a Smallmouth, on Saturday.  It hit my crank, a 12 foot deep-diver, and seconds later did a two foot high somersault in the air.  When I lipped it, I noticed its mouth seemed small for its size, and it had a slightly different color on its belly.  Looking at the pics, I noticed the redish eye color of the smallies caught by Jeff and the folks at Mendo.  Could the fish I caught also be a smallmouth?

HB, we all do that kind of stuff, not just you. just the price of living sometimes.

you could just leave those dents. and drive that car into the ground, ;-).

then it's not really a loss.

my truck has all it's original dents,  :smt044.

lets keep this in perspective, the kayak is OK.  The rest is just cosmetic. :smt002

Oh and I had the hatch up on a truck and backed into a carport once, so I feel your pain.

Ah, those moments when, in a split second, you trash something and the regret pours in and won't relent for weeks.  Let yourself off the hook!  Happens to the best.  Way to man up and share the FULL report.   :smt001

How about a Matrix with dents--do chicks dig them too?  :smt012

I like the t-shirt Sumo...I'll put it on my Christmas list!

Thanks all for your sympathy and thoughts...as the eventful moment fades away, I am seeing more and more humor in it.  That wouldn't happen if the yak was damaged though.

Any thoughts on using foam yak carriers instead of the yakima racks...I don't think the rack towers can hold with the dents where they are now.
