You definitely are living right.

I wish my family was into kayaking, or fishing...  or camping at least!

But man, the pic of a huge dead turtle is kinda sad. And you saw 2 of them? Major bummer. I wonder what happened.

Yes, we did see two of them about 2 miles apart. There was another that was spotted by (Findthatfish) Paul at Bean Hollow about a month or so ago when we fished there. Would love to see one alive.

I read somewhere that we have a bumper crop of jellyfish this year and that we are seeing more turtles than normal.  Hope this is just normal death rates, more visible because of greater numbers in the water.

Nice haul! looks like the conditions improved a bit, I gotta get down there again. I've got my bike trailer but and running, so any time you guys wanna get out local let me know. Happy birthday!---chris
Hi Chris, You must turn a few heads biking down to the harbor towing a kayak with all the gear :fish4
Yes, conditions were better than the week before when you were with us and we have learned a little more too. Walker and I did a lot of paddling and exploring including way around north of the kelp. Sat. we were on the water from breakfast until 4:30 and now have a little better idea of were not to go and maybe (a very qualified maybe) were to go. Are you ready for a redo?

Hey Northern Boy, Thank you for posting the link. I clicked it and read the article, very informative. I did not realize the leatherbacks visited our coast and was shocked to see them, now I know a lot more. Also, now I wonder if they were hit by a ship and thus two so close together. I wish I had looked   more closely at them for evidence of a collision.

How deep of water did you fish?
everything from 25' to 150' on sat. and on sun only in the 125-150' zone

What was the best jig, bait?
on Friday& Sat. we had to work hard and tried everything, nothing worked for me. Walker had no problems and limited out using a mega bait purple metal jig w/O bait. scallen had told him it was a thing of honor to fish LK w/o bait, so he went for the glory. I went for the fish and tipped everything with squid. One of the rangers had given me some frozen anchovies that got hit every time down, just could not hook up and keep anything on. (we gave all the rangers fish and it came back with dividends)
On Sunday everything worked with or without squid, it was just a wide open bite.

We had a super fast drift which kept switching around during the day. Did you have the same drift problems?. I am trying to get an understanding of how each of the launches/landings fish on various conditions. This way I hope to be better dialed in on where to start under each of these conditions.
We had no issues with drift, we just pretty much sat where we were or moved very slowly.
Hope this helps,

Steve
