I got up late and got on the road even later (8:45), went over highway 92 and it was socked in.

drove south, saw one kayak out in a little clearing close to shore at pigeon point. drove further south hoping that the fog line was at ano neuvo but it wasn't, it went all the way down to santa cruz,  :smt010

Well, it was fishable water, but I just don't enjoy fishing in the fog (in the red triangle in october!) and enjoyment is what it is about for me,  so I headed home dry. at least I didn't get up early,  :smt001

The fog was right at the shoreline and low and fairly thick. didn't look like it was going to lift today.

Anybody know of a good way to know the fog situation tomorrow?

I have heard that when it is warm and then it cools down, you got a strong fog like that?

My fog forcasting skills are pretty nonexistent.

Should have taken my surfboard as a few south swells were making it in at county line near wadell, but it general it was a pretty flat ocean out there.

You should have seen the fog this morning at SF.  THICK..I shore fished the Marin Headlands for perch and greenlings early.  It was classic san francisco...GG towers and SF skyline sticking out of the fog...Awesome!

I fished Capitola today. Thick fog until 9 then it lifted and was a beautiful day although I did not find my butt. I did find four large (48"+ sand sharks) a pile of macks and a half pile of sardines. The wind stayed down all day. The fog returned at 4Pm and is thick.

I think good fog line prediction is the last stage of evolution of weatherpersons, but here's something to occupy your time until they get better:
http://www.sfgate.com/weather/
Go down to the middle of the page and see the great graphics on fog.
It was back into the middle of SC tonite at 5.

They need a few place labels on that display. Historically I have seen a fog line run off ano neuvo.

but if you got fog in there @ santa cruz tonite @ 5 I doubt it will lift too early tomorrow morning, if at all.

This year has been good for fog for me, this was the first trip I aborted.

hmmm, looks like lindamar might be fog free according to that display. I have seen that before, a fog line offshore there. but it's clear inshore.

Hello John,

Did you have to use a GPS to find your way back to shore? Or did you just
follow your instinct and just paddled back knowing where you were going.
Sorry for the newbie question. I just want to be prepaired just in case.
