A certain proprietor of fishing goods posted the following "report" on its website.

Sept. 23
There were not many boats on the water today so the inshore reports were hard to come by. There have been good reports of Halibut and Lingcod so come fishing.

Seems inconsistent at best.  What do you guys think?

Personally I feel that complaining about reports is a case of a beggar wanting to choose.

he's saying that they don't know for sure, but fishing has been decent recently.

seems clear to me.

seems like theyre making no information sound like they actually know something. but i dont really believe 90% of the reports i read from pb's or baitshops to begin with.

i kind of automatically distrust anyplace that calls rockfish "rockcod" for some reason.

When I've made decisions about where and when to fish based on that particular source, I've often been disappointed.

Two possible conclusions:

Reports are coming in from better anglers, who are finding fish in some very specific locations I'm not hip to.

Or....Bullshit!

NEVER believe the baitshops and most sporting goods stores are even less reliable , selling bait/tackle is their livelyhood . Of course the fish are biting , besides the guys that are really doing well don't generally run back in and let the baitshops know , at least the real location !

I claim puffery. With a slight hint of deception---unless the person posting the report actually believes it to be true....in which case it's just plain old ineptitude.

Its a little of both and an attempt to try to make up for revenue loss due to the closing of salmon season. This particular shop has been ( up until rockfish season) a liquor store and social gathering spot which makes it tough to bay your bills and feed your family...

I totally support this Santa Cruz county small business.. :smt003 :smt003

even if they are posting fishy, fish stories...

The only non-NCKA fishing reports I believe are the ones with pics.

The Tigerfish usually has pretty good reports on their website.

Yeah!  Daily addicting NCKA reports are the only way to go.   :fish
