Topic: Gear retaining system for the x-factor?  (Read 5407 times)

I love my center hatch on the X and I keep a lot of gear in there.  I would like to put some kind of gear retaining system in there to keep my gear off to the sides under the hatch so I can put my rods up the middle.  I was thinking about putting velcro inside the hull and putting velcro on my lure boxes and other gear.  Do you guys have any ideas?
Thanks,
Travis

Travis-your in luck, the new x-factors (I mean new as delivered here Friday) have a liner for the lap hatch so your stuff stays put.  I'll take a pic later.

Sorry it took so long...here's a picture of the drop in hatch liner in the boat...

Here a pic of it out of the boat.  Its a heavy coated nylon, looks to be waterproof.  Haven't tried it yet but it looks like a nice update.  This will fit any MK boat with the new style hatches.

CP-The "new" x-factor is the same boat, but with some mods to the bottom of the hull and improved hatches.

Thanks for posting the pics, that looks really cool.  I went out today and bought some stick on velcro and I am gunna try to put that on my lure boxes and stuff and see how it works.  Can you buy those drop in hatch liners alone?

I'm sure I can get them solo, I wouldn't expect them to be much at all.

Tried one today...honest C- to D  performance.  Pretty lame, better to rig something yourself.

You might try what I did in my yak... I was sick of thing sliding out of my reach when stowed below.  I found these little plastic pipe fasteners at the hardware store and just gooped four of them in a rectangle to the inside of my hull and ran some shock cord through them to make a corral.  Only very small or flat items can slide beyond the corral now.

Might be worth a shot.  I've tried getting velcro to stick to the inside hull and haven't had luck with that due to condensation making the glue let go.

The retainers , pipe fasteners look like they could have a lot of uses. What hardware store did you find them at and what is there actual intended use??

I found them at Yardbirds (local hardware chain) in the plumbing section... like where the copper pipe and indoor plumbing supplies are located... not with the PVC and outdoor plumbing.

Their intended use is to be nailed to a stud to support a small diameter pipe.  They have a small hole in each foot for a nail.   Look around... I'm sure you'll find them.  They come in a variety of sizes... this was about the smallest size they had.
