So ive decided its time to get away from the freshwater and try something new. I am hoping to hook up with someone that can show me what i need to know to be out on the salt. Id be willing to carpool in my car and provide lunch. I have an extra hull a port for safe kayak transporting. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I might not be available to go this saturday but next saturday i am definitely open. I live in modesto but i dont mind driving a few hours. I have tackle rods. Etc. my only concern is that i only have chest waders. But i have a good life jacket. I will be paddling a p15 angler with a brand new fishfinder. Jeff

Hey Jeff,

If you ever feel like heading up to the Sonoma and/or Mendo coast, I would be glad to help you out.  It is a bit of a drive from Modesto, but worth the effort, I think.  PM me if you ever head this way.....

We're shut down up here for rockfish and lings, and it's a helluva drive, but I do want to say this - you've shown very admirable "sharing and caring" (thanks, Frankfish), and I know that there'll be a big group of good guys willing to show you the salt adventure.  Have fun, Man!   :smt001

Jeff - I will be heading out to Stillwater both Saturday and Sunday of this week and probably will be fishing salt for the remainder of the season. Yep, I am hooked bad! While I am new to this whole thing, the folks that I am fishing with are not and have been great to pal around with and learn from. The group that I am heading out with on Sunday have been Yak fishing in the ocean for many years and have been kind enough to teach me quite a bit about the big blue. let me know if you are interested in a HMB trip.

I don't mean to open a can of worms (this has been covered in previous threads) but I personally would recommend a farmer john wetsuit for ocean paddling. The Derby in Santa Cruz this Saturday would be a great beginner place to get your yak salty.

Jeff,
I'm new to the whole Kayak thing. I've been reading almost everything I can but I don't have anyone to show me the ropes fresh or salt water. I've go two perception search 15 and 13 the 15 is completely rigged with a dash board, 4 pole holders, 1hp outboard etc.
I have a very open schedule and willing to drive anywhere anytime for a lesson/friend/fish. I also have a 18' tracker targa 185 115hp deep-v aluminum hull sport fishing boat I would like to take out for location exploration. If you go out this weekend Please consider including a true newbie, I'll drive and cover gas. Oh and yes I could transport all kayaks and two passengers.
Regards, Jason

Yup!
I would like to go.
I'm not sure what to fish with.
I do have everything for fresh water fishing but very limited salt tackle.
Any sugestions anyone?
I'm also game for just paddling for lessons, veiws and pic's.
I don't need to fish this time but will be ready for the next.

Go out to Santz Cruz Saturday. The fishing will be a bit slower but there will be lots of people to learn from.  Chance at a halibut, ling rockies and more.
