NB~ they are at HMB too! a GWS lives at Linda Mar point and has been named by the locals....once it was sighted showing it's baby how to hunt the shoreline. Signs were posted and never has it ever bite anyone(yet)

Not sure about that...Great whites don't live in one place and they don't raise their young the way bears or dogs or cats do. They roam and are solitary, but that's not to say that there has never been one at LM!

I believe there is actually some tagging evidence that although they may move seasonaly, some sharks do take up "residence" in a general location and will return there year after year.
Surfers used to tell me a similar story about 4mile beach.....

I'm not sure about the juvenile "teaching" part of it. I always thought they were born to do what they do, and were basically on their own to practice on whatever...and work their way up to sea lions etc.

So uh Danglin, Eric B, or jmairey,...maybe I'll end the season fishing next to you guys. :smt003

Sean, decoys are always welcome!  :smt044. Just need to figure a way out to make sure you are slower than me too...  :smt004

I have surfed 4-mile a lot, and I do know that kevin reed who used to own that spot did get chased out once there, but I have never seen anything too crazy there myself.

Sharky, I have not shocked myself yet, probably because of your warning. I hang it off my folded up rudder so it's pretty out of the way. I did get to hear the low-battery alarm, right after I caught my ling, cut its gills, poured blood into the water at bean right by fishin-jay's chum slick, and headed in tho,  :smt003.

Yeah, I suspect it was just their respose to seeing a guy with a kayak on the trail. Funny guys :smt044!
Craziest thing I've seen there was a full size elephant seal cruising the kelp. HUGE sucker.

I wondered why you took off so fast!

I did not charge it before heading out. I had gone out for about 4 hours the time before. I would say I got at least 2 hours before it sounded the alarm. So seems like I did get 6 hrs on a charge.

But.... I would be a lot happier with more battery life, like 12 hours given that we often fish for 6 hours easy.

I'll be giving mine a topoff tonight in preparation for it's maiden voyage.

I got to do the Beach Break Dance courtesy of Don's SS a few weeks ago, (or is it the Shark Shield Shimmy?)...  and almost busted a gut watching him try to turn it off...  (sorry, Danglin!)...  so I'm prepared.  Feels like 120v a/c.

I hang mine on the stern, turn it on while it is on the ground laid out behind the yak like a tail, launch. then I land, pull my kayak up on shore far enough that it is out of the water, and turn it off. No shocks so far.

Yeah, you are supposed to store it 'half-charged', and then top it off before you head out. Of course I forgot to top it off, so I only had a half charge!

 " Shark Shield Boggie " :smt026

No problem turning it on in the water, forgot to turn it off before I hit the shore.

I had attached it to my Paddle bungie and also secured it with a Hobie rod leash, Now, everything is wet and CHARGED....

Funny thing is, the charge comes in a Pulse, so your holding it, trying to turn it off and " Wham "... :smt010

But it's not too Bad and actually kind of Funny.... :smt044

It's also Comforting to know that it's working ...... :smt004

Using a latex examination glove was all I needed to get past the Shocks....

I hear ya. Even support for external 12v would be nice/versatile...

After reading some of the post's on Aquahunters site. I believe thoose shark shields really work. They have had quite a few kayakers see them repel sharks chasing hooked fish when they get near the yak.

Blue Water Jon's experience was enough to convince me. From his story, he was out with his wife in Hawaii and was being " Charged " by a Tiger..

As soon as he turned it on, Shark be gone.. with haste...

I would like to know more about the possibility of these things draw sharks and why people would think that. My guess is that it may mimic a distress field that a injured fish would have.

I also find it interesting that anybody using these things would have it " Off till Needed ..."

Turning these unit's on is not a quick task,...

It requires turning a knob around a few times, and is not easy to grasps...
especially when your being shocked.... :smt002
