I just Goop it straight to the hull.  The trick is to scuff it well, and use a small amount of Goop. about the size of a fifty cent piece.  also don't put it in a place thats to angled our recessed or it WILL get a bubble under it.

If your P-15 has a transducer scupper in the TW do the transducer exchange with Humminbird and mount it that way.  The thru scupper is the bomb, the signal is definitely superior to thru hull and the water temp is also much more accurate.

here's what you want to do you want to get a pool noodle(make sure your transducer will fit) , some marine goop, a large can of Vaseline,.
cut the noodle about 5 inches tall make sure its a good straight cut, mount it to a smooth area in your hull with marine goop and let it set..after it is set you need to do a little cooking... boil some water and set your bottle of Vaseline in it until it liquefies the pour some into the noodle then push your transducer in and pour a little more in to cover the transducer...then take another piece of the noodle about 1 to 2 inches long and cut it so you can push it into the swimnoodle to cover the transducer.....then let it solidify that is how i have mounted mine and it works like a dream.....how ever you decide good luck and i hope this may help you......this method allows you too safely remove your transducer if you should need to without damaging it

Wow...I've used warm Vaseline for other things <ahem>, but I never even thought of this method for my yak!  I'm using the noodle/water method now, but as mentioned before you need to remember to top it off before each trip, otherwise you're plagued with FF issues.  I think I might just try it your way!  :smt004

Won't the vaseline melt in hot weather? I can imagine the mess if it spilled in hot weather.

Sorry for the very late response but, this is how I did it for my transducer. First I
bought one of those garden knee pad cushion and traced the transducer and cut
it out. Second, I sanded down the section where I wanted to gooped the pad and
cleaned it with some alcohol afterwards to make sure it is very clean. I gooped the
pad side only to make sure the mess would be minimal. I placed some 5oz weights
all around the pad and a brick to hold down the pad for three days to cure. Here
are some pictures.

I am amazed that the transducer work actually because if you notice, the transducer sits only half way. It still gives a good reading along with the water temperature. I have not had any problem of the transducer coming off even when I was hit with a hard surf. Hope it helps a little.

I think that's backwards, too, although it may not matter.

My installs are similar except I silicone the transducer inside the "nest" so it will never pop out during normal use, (even carrying the yak upside down).

I am planning to purchase a Eagle Cuda 242 and would like it to be portable.  My yak is a Wilderness Pungo sit inside, as with most sit insides the hull flexes quite a bit.

Mostly I go in lakes and occasionally the Tomales shoreline. Basically I'm a newbie to kayak fishing.

I am looking for suggestions on where to mount the transducer and the best procedure.
Is the optional suction cup Cuda sells necessary if using the pool noodle/foam mounting system?

All the dialogues seems to be for SOT's and I've only view one series of photos.

Thanks.

First of all, welcome to the board. I too am a newbie at all of this. The one thing
I can suggest is that ask away any question you may have and someone normally
will come to your rescue. Just make sure that you place your question in the
right topic section. Unfortunately on your question about going to the suction cup
if necessary with the pool noddle mounting system, I honestly don't know. Just
to let you know, my transducer is removable and it is not stationary. Same goes
with my fishfinder monitor and battery pack. I will try and post all that I have done
with my fishfinder so you can see how I went about it. Sorry though because it is
still all ghetto until I can come up with something on my own.

Remodeler -
Welcome!
There are a ton of threads about fishfinder mounts on this site - do a search (upper right hand corner) for fish finder or transducer mount to find most of them. I think most of the in-hull methods discussed here would also work in a Sit-In depending on the hull material, but here are a couple links to previous posts about portable set-ups that might be adaptable for you. Look around here & on the web & you'll find other installs for Sit-Ins as well.

Another possibility for the transducer is suction cup mounts. ChuckE posted about using one on a Prowler with no problem, so it would probably hold on a Sit-Inside hull even better. Here's a link to a Humminbird suction mount, but you could probably rig your own pretty easily.

Oops, I didn't notice before - you already asked about the suction cup. Not necessary with pool noodle/foam mount!

Rather than using pool noodle foam, I like to use a firmer denser foam. I use a piece cut out of one of those closed cell foam knee pads you can buy in the gardening departments. I trace out a dounut that's slightly smaller than the transducer and then when I press it in it stays in place. You can even adjust the angle if you want. I press it till water squrits out and it's good till I put it back on top of the truck.

I once tried the vasiline thing and hated the mess. Also on a real hot day with your yak on top of your truck, guess where that watery vasiline goes......that's right EVERYWHERE!!! Not a big deal to put in a couple table spoons of water before you set off. With the denser foam you only gotta do it once, even if you use it all weekend.

I tried the silicon thing. Scuffed up the mount area with 100 grit sandpaper, wiped it down with alcohol, weighted the transducer in a dammed puddle of silicon with a lead cannonball, waited 24 hours, and it just slipped right off. :smt013 :smt013

So I thought about it, and for ~$60 you can get another transducer, so why risk having the thing come loose when you need it?  I epoxied the thing in and it's forever.

My new house is too small to use the yak as a coffee table so it stays outside. I need to keep it dry and stuff removeable
