Being out in the big blue this weekend, I realized that I knew very little about identifying all of the species and understanding all of the limits for each one. I found the following items that will be a huge help to me and thought that this would be of value to the folks that are getting started like me.

http://www.dfg.ca.gov/marine/fishing_map.asp - Just click on the part of the coast that you are going to fish and it will show quite a bit about the what you want to catch. It does not include everything but it is a great start.

I have also attached some the fish ID charts for the fish that are commonly caught off of the coast.

Enjoy!

Man I am in trouble. After looking at the differences of the fish, they all still
look a like to me. Maybe I need to buy one of those laminated fish pictures
to carry with me on the trip to stillwater.

Thanks for the help Russ

Happy to help out. I do have a copy of this that is sealed up and water tight and I will bring it with me tomorrow.
