Met up with Nothernboy, Jedmo and two other NCKA'ers( sorry guys, I am bad with names ) at the main marina that the party boats launch from. After a short cruise to the fishing spot, We hooked up immediately with rockfish (blacks? blues? hell I don't know) but it was fast a furious for a while there and a hell of a lot of fun. I landed about a dozen rockfish and C&Red the whole bunch. Later I hooked into a couple of lings. 22 and 23 and a freaking half so I let them go to fight another day. Thanks again for the help Phil!

The wind was very calm and the swells were about 6ft? It was high enough to block the view of boats and other paddlers if they were 50+ yards away.

It was my first time in the big blue and it took me a little while to get used to it but I know that I will be back. As a matter of fact, I will be at pigeon point tomorrow morning for another round. :smt003

Cheers!

yakattack, looks like fishing was pretty hot!  you had one fish on a shrimpfly, one shrimpfly empty and a china following a plain lead weight to the surface.  good thing there wasn't a bar or something else with a hook in it at the bottom of that double shrimpfly rig, because a 3 hook rig is now illegal in california.  yup, fishing is great when a rockfish will follow up a plain lead weight.

great report!  glad you guys got 'em!  i'd like to ferry some of you guys out to deeper water some time.  i've got some great spots off of san g and pescadero that are really too far to comfortably paddle out to.

HMB fishing was excellent today.  The quality of fish was surprisingly good.  There were hot spots that provided a wide open bite when you can find them.

I kept 8 various rockfish and a 25in ling.  Released a couple underlings.

I saw the boys at the harbor @ 6am. I had just run into the Capt. of the pb i was on for the day and he was hell bent on going for tuna. I knew the fish were over 150 miles out and I knew this was going to amount to a long boat ride. I was told we were going for Hali the day b4, so i didnt bring any of my trolling gear( I have to use lefthanded reels bcause of an injury). Capt. was worried about my lack of gear...I told him not to, i knew that this was going to amount to a 120mi boat ride, cause we couldnt make the outside numbers (beyond the 125 line). 3.5 hrs out to the Guide and 3.5 back + trolling. NADA. on the way home made a drift at the Bean and chatted to someone (NCKA) on the beach. Went to San G for amixed bag of rockies and a ling as it was getting dark. I TRULY appreciate being my own capt. on my yak. 140gal of diesel for a coupla rockies and a ling :smt044 :smt044 :smt044.....................................

Hey Yakattack,

Sorry I had to bail on you guys so early. I guess I still have to get use to the
ocean swell. I'll make sure to take some patch with me the next time around.
I wish I had not gotten sick because we were catching fish left and right.

Thanks Northern Boy for the invite and the much appreciated tips of how to
fish for rockfish.

Thanks also to Shicken who provided the live anchovies. I owe you bro.

Did you guys catch the lings on shrimp flies or the live anchovies?

Congrats to all

Thanks Jed - Glad to see that you are feeling better. I think that all of the lings were caught on chovies.

HMB means......................

Hail Mary Bullcod!

I had C+R'd a bunch of rockies in the usual flavours. On my very last drop I get another tap tap but then some real fight. At first look through the gloom I thought it was a Ling that was probably not legal ......... only when I got a good look at it's head did I see it was no Underling  but a Big Cab  :smt055; taped out at 21 inches. Does that qualify as a Super Shuttle? has to be a minivan Cab at least.

Another first for me as well after years of minicabs from the shore.

Whats next? Vermilion!

Russ, Jed, Marv (and Ed?). Good fishing with you folks. Jed, sorry about the green feeling, I know how that is.

Well, I had to pick a baseball team when I got here. My soccer team back home is also named The Royals. They also play in blue and white. They also suck. It was a no-brainer.

Don't worry Tailwalk, we'll get you out there before seasons end!
