New guy and a report

Just got into kayak fishing with a Hobie Outback with the turbo fins.  This is a BLAST!!!  Especially for an old guy.

Lake Mendocino fish are getting ready to bust loose.  The good news is that the North boatramp is already closed and the South boat ramp will also soon close, making it possible to fish without the big Rangers blowing us off the boils.  Spotted loads of shad starting to ball up.  Also had a hard time telling stripers from Carp on my fishfinder...bummer that someone had to put them in there.

But, it's getting ready to bust loose with top water action starting in the next week or two...I'll be gone until the beginning of October but will be on the water right after that and will post an update then.  Until then it's off to Montana to kayak the Glacier Park lakes and surrounding areas.

BAM IV will be the name(forth annual) it is GROUP CAMPING for NCKA only...last year the ramps were closed and we had the whole lake to ourselves.

Thanks for the invite but I'll just be getting back that weekend.  Wish I could be getting back to be able to get out to introduce myself but I'm afraid that won't happen as I have to be in Sacramento to see my daughter run in a marathon on the 5th.

is this "THEE" Charlie from lake mendo?  Dan the police officers' buddie?

Welcome Charlie, I'm sure i will see you up there and maybe we can hook up.  I'm thinking of getting the same boat you bought, so I'd like to see it in action.  I have been in a Cobra Fish n Dive for 10+ years now.  Nice and stable, but paddles like a barge....

I was thinking the same thing as FisHunter, are you Mendo Charlie that hangs fairly often at the South Ramp?

if this is Southramp Charlie....he hooked me up with my first net full of NativeShad a couple of years ago...and got my 1st. Striper soon after.
I remember it like it was just a couple of years ago.

Dang I'm old....don't know that I "hang" a lot at the south boat ramp...several years since I fished it seriously.  I have helped folks get shad with my long-g-g-g handled dip net (now stolen)...so-o-o-o....I'm not sure I'm me or whomever you are thinking of.  Check your messages FishHunter.  I'm big and ugly (well, a lot less big since I joined weight watchers) and I like fly fishing more than anything but will use minnows, plugs, etc if they aren't on flies.

Would be happy to hook up in early to mid October Norm and you're more than welcome to try out my new rig.  I sure do like it and it scoots pretty good.  I'm still so new to this that there are a lot of things I don't yet understand or even know I'm missing but that's typical of all new guys...trying to be a sponge and soak up all good info.  I'm retired so I go out to the lake whenever I feel like it. 

Heading to Colorado after elk mid October and then will be on the Trinity River until Nov 4th...after that, barring a lot of rain the lake should be prime.  Of course, steelhead season is just around the corner and I'm looking forward to that.  Plus I'm getting my house ready for sale and am going to move to the Spokane area where there are over 100 lakes within an hour's drive....hmmmm...can you spell fish heaven?????

HOWDY CHARLIE!!!!  I DROVE BY YOUR HOUSE THE OTHER DAY AND SAW THE YAKS ON THE TRUCK.  YOU SWITCHED FROM THE DARK SIDE (FLOAT TUBES) Joking.....  I remember being a young teenager in your old Klamath boat at Pilsbury showing you up on top water (15 years ago).   Nice to see ya on the board.

I am new to the Yak World also and like you I have to be at my daughters 40th Birthday in Loomis Ca. on the weekend of Bendo IV (see I am an old guy too). Maybe we will meet at Mendo in the spring, then there will be two Old Guy's on the Lake.
