HMB 9/6/08

Took a friend with me on his first kayak fishing trip.  I paddled my Scupper Pro and let my friend use my P15 cause its noobie friendly.  Gave a quick lesson on paddling, VHF radio usage, and headed to the bait receiver.  The bait was awesome.  Large lively anchovies.

Our first stop was along the inside and outside of the outer jetty wall.  No action so we headed NW in search of some reefs.  I couldn't utilize sonar because it was on my P15 being paddled by my friend.  I instructed him to holler if he saw abrupt changes in depth or fish marks.  About 3/4 a mile outside the harbor, I spotted a small patch of kelp and decided it would be a good place to try.  First drop resulted in feeling a rocky bottom and stolen bait.  A couple drifts and stolen baits later, I landed and released a 22" ling.  Next drift resulted in a feisty 34" ling.  Would have continued working this spot and the surrounding area but my friend was turning green so we headed back in.

Weather was great, slight swell, little to no breeze, clear skies.

A 34 inch ling in HMB is hard to come by. Great job Marv

Good job, I was thinking about trying there, I saw a good report from some coastsiders for that stretch.

nobody has caught a thing from up there all summer so it's not like it's fished out!
