Nice Start, Great weather, thanks for the Bait Dave/Insane/Arron :smt006

Got out there with Gabecap, Dave, InsaneDwane and was later joined OTW by Naoake and Arron,

Naoake Hooked up with a 22" and Dave also took on a 30",

Really slow over all with wind picking up by 9am..

I will never Halibutt fish without a Stinger Hook Again :smt091

I missed 2 fish per this problem. 2nd was running for about 10 seconds before I set... Nothing... Waaa...

It's all Dave's fault, He said not to use a stinger!!!!!    :smt002

Nice to get some love,,.. Watched a pier Rat take one off a Blue/Green white fish trap... :puker:

Another Kool NCKA Hook up... :smt004

Nice report Danglin.  Better luck next time.

Just curious, when fishing live bait, are you just sticking a treble through their nose or dorsal fin?  I've only fished live bait once for halibut and it was 7 or 8 years ago.

Snelled hook thru the nose and a stinger treble hook right above the tail 2 inches is how I was schooled. I see some guys uasing a banana weight, some guys using a sinker release, some guys using a sliding sinker. I use a 3 way swivel with a dropper and I attach a bucktail jig or a leadhead with a swimbait to the dropper. It looks like an awesome morning on the water. Boy, that wind can sure wreak havoc to a guys fun and plans.

Nasty tides for Hali this morning, so the fact that there were some keepers amongst you is a testament to the skillz abundant amongst NCKA. Did the keepers come on live bait. I'm just so impressed with the effectiveness of those smelt.
When i fish popsicles I like to use a stinger, but I found trebels pick up alotta seaweed. when i fish live bait Ive never needed anything more than a light wire ringed no 2 live bait hook. Seems like they dont hesitate when they see that smelt. A 19 inch hali has NO PROBLEM inhaling a 10 inch smelt. I really need to learn to tie a decent snell.

Live anchovy, ringed 1/0 Live bait hook upper cut sealing the mouth shut and let a size 2 treble stinger dangle about 6" back.

That is what I've had the best luck with on the Berkley flats.  Most of the fish netted were on the stinger.

The Stinger will treat you well in the future...........

Nice Butt Dave!!!!

Nice Job trouching all the way to the Wall Too...

I had my chances today, just wasn't in the cards.  Got home in time to spend the afternoon with the Fam.

Interesting,  they went to Muir Beach,  sounds like it was Glass out there today with slight breeze.

Had I known they wanted to go there I could have scored WAF and Possible Hali.... :smt102

Nice report Danglin and great pictures. I have a quick question for you if you don't
mine? How long will the halibut  be sticking around for? I know that it has slowed
down drastically for the pier folks on Berkeley pier.

I'm no expert!!! :smt009

My Hunch is they will be around for awhile, ya just have to look for areas that don't get hit as much.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have year long residents,

Butt, they sure have been taking a hit this year.

Hope it's not too much for them.

sorry for the late report...
so I finally got a Halibut. :smt045  After many weekends of fishing at Tomales and Bodega last year, the many trial runs at Paradise & ARW, and I even tried Richmond ...  but my 1st Halibut on the kayak came 1st drop in the middle of no where at Berkeley flat.  It was barely legal not even 1/16" over...the game warden checked it too, so it's a legal.  By the way, the warden was very impressed by GWKC's Hawg Trough, Sean! :thumleft:
Thank you Pisciform (Aaron) for taking me to the chove dock & sharing the bait with me.  & it was nice meeting you, Gabe.  I'm glad you made it.
I saw Duane & Dave for a second before their crazy trip, & Dave that is a nice fish!  Good seeing you again too Dan! :smt006

& here are some pics...
1st pic following Pisciform to get the bait
2nd fishing w/ guys
3rd the Hali looked bigger in the water...
4th it's barely legal!
5th Hali & I
6th the Berkeley pier
