Went out of Trinidad in my OB on 8-18.  For the first six hours I had nothing to show but four jack smelt, and I only fished for them out of boredom.  One hour later I dropped a 6oz iron jig on a 6lb vermillion--the first one I've caught in over 40 trips.  I was a mile out and 1.5 miles north in 90ft of water when I saw a neat rock pile on the fishfinder.  I dropped the same jig down, thought I snagged a rock, then the rock fought back.  It took me a half hour to finally get that yellow eyed monster to my yak.  I weighed the fish on the pier--30lbs, 6oz.  His belly was empty, the only thing in his mouth was a piece of my glove.
First post.
Tim

If you guys would ever read the politics forum, you would know that your trip has been canceled.

The ling was 45" long.
F&G is holding a special meeting today in Trinidad about closing the rockfish season on Sept. 2.  I have to work or I'd be there.

I was just going to say the same thing.
That's a helluva fish. Way to stick it out for the duration with no action for a while. You were justly rewarded.

I've always been happy that lings don't bite, they'll give you the evil eye, but don't seem to have the brains to bite the hand that grabs them.

Beautiful fish,

dale

Sometimes you just gotta suck it up and go or your gonna get screwed.  I shot my wad over the MLPA, so I am sitting this one out.

That's a helluva ling Timo.
You were alone? If so, did you talk to the fish as you fought it and it fought you back?
I do.
