i think the limit on greenling is 1 not 2.

They changed the greenling limit to 2 this year. (and cabezon might go up to 2 next year)

Basically in the ocean, if it's legal to fish for and possess, it's legal to use as live bait.  If salmon season was open and you caught a legal salmon, technically you could tie a hook on that fish and use it as bait.  The "bait" counts still towards your salmon limit for the day.  Okay that's an extreme example, but they actually do this in Alaska for salmon sharks.

Just a clarification.  You can't use sport caught salmon for bait in AK.  In AK, you can buy commercially caught salmon sold as bait and use it as bait.

The Shelton fish descender is interesting.   I recently saw a device advertised in a fishing catalogue.  It punctures the swim bladder with a hypo needle that sucks out the air and lets the fish get back to the bottom.  The question is: does this wound just get infected and kill the fish anyway?  Also, sometimes those canaries' eyes puff up too.  No idea if this actually works but it looks cool.  The fish descender seems like it works.  I just want to let those fish survive. 

Also, do you like the Shelton version of RSK??   I like the look of it.

Also, in addition to the formentioned, especially when fishing deep, mortality can be reduced by a slower retrieve. Good topic... Thanks guys!

I won the Elk tourny this year with a 17 inch greenling, they love em, no spines, easy to slurp on down.
