Got in at just after noon to great conditions, caught only 4 shiners for the life of me, bounced them a few miles, past the bridge and caught the tide back. One major take down that unbuttoned and broke my heart.
My new favorite marin launch.
Question: should I stay in free spool and thumb, or just set the drag real low???? They dont hit like strippers at all....
Got a cool shot of Mt Tam overshadowing the joint on the point. Nice veiw.

Hey Ben.... isn't that cool place?  That's a fun spot to troll when the schoolie stripers show up in the fall.
Question: should I stay in free spool and thumb, or just set the drag real low????  They dont hit like strippers at all....
If my rod is in the holder, I like to keep it in gear with the drag set low.  If I'm trolling or drifting with the rod in hand, I like to thumb the free spool with the clicker on to give shortbiting fish a second chance.

Hey, at least you got on the water, not wishin', like me.
With regards to hooking halibut, don't ask me. I miss more than my share of hits. I've yet to figure it out.
The bridge shot reminds me of a day I was there and hanging out under the bridge just to get out of the heat of the sun. It was during a heat wave last year.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

thanks for the port w/pics!  i'm no pro, but when I'm trolling or drifting' i'll keep it in as-loose-as-you-can drag..so that it's not pulling out line when it bounces bottom, but if something were to grab it? it would spool out very easy, then they have a better chance to swallow the bait and hook themselves....now just apply the thumb for drag and if it runs, thumb-drag him into compliance.
