I was pretty tired, has a class reunion the night before.  Ever try to suck in your gut for 6 hours? :smt002  But Nathan is a competitive kid.  Told him about the tourny and he's ready to win.  He wanted to fish the area ahead of time so we fished mbk on 8/10.

There are no fish in the water, I repeat, no fish in the water.  We found the best success casting onto the wharf or onto the dry sand.  We caught WSB, Halibut AND albacore using this technique. :smt003

:smt059OK, OK maybe GB2 was right and a sand dab is going to win.  Worked hard for a couple of nice browns and a few decent vermillion.  All came on the usual list of suspects, metal jigs, fishtraps, shrimp fly and bait.  Had some issued catching canaries, though all successfully returned to the deep.  Water was not real clear and periodically went through some areas that coated my braided line with a slime coat.  Seals everywhere, some dolphins, should be a great time on the 17th

Thanks for the intel E2G!!!  Think I may head up Sat. and do some pre-fishing myself, since I haven't been to MBK yet.  If only I had an iphone or something, I would post a report afterwards :)

Eugene -

I never trust a pre-derby fishing report.  :smt044 All that said, I am targeting sand dabs for sure.  :smt005 Haven't fished for them in a year and I am going through withdrawl.  Hope they have a scale that measures grams.
