Daughters wedding is getting close and paid for ( I"m BROKE ) , finally getting ready to buy a yak and I've got some shoulder problems , surgical , dammit ! Anyone here had shoulder surgery and how long did it take to return to paddling a kayak ? Also we got any older yakers here , 50 something or older ? I''ve never used a yak , but have ab dived/spearfished in the past and love the ocean and am hopefull that at 53 I'm not getting too old , did I mention I love the ocean ? Hate the idea of being shorebound !

I'm sure you'll get allot of similar feedback, you're definetly not to old you might even say you're just getting started. Especially with that wedding coming up.

As for the surgery, I can't speak to that but there is a physical therapist in the group, maybe he'll chime in.

Real nice , too long and out of my budget for as often as I would use it - although  the Hobie would work better for  downriggers in high elevation lakes ( my second love , ocean first ) !

Got too many irons in the fire to make a big money commitment , Harley , boat , hunt most anything that moves , Quad , RV , not to mention Wife , grown kids and Grandkids , time more of a problem than cash ! Sure wish I was 25-30 years younger , this kayaking / diving could easily have been my way of life

Your still a spring chicken. I have had shoulder surgery, I am 54 and I still paddle. I paddle a OK Prowler. I had surgery in June and was down at the ranch in August. I did have trouble holding up a 45 lbs rooster fish for a photo but other than that I didn't have any problems.

I hear ya on the shoulder.

I found KayakFishing just about the same time a Ladder came down at a fire and broke my shoulder. the surgery was rough, worse thing that has ever happened to me, but, mine was totally opened up with Black and Decker power tools involved. If your having orthoscopic, recovery time should be good.

Hobie, I love it. :smt007   trolling maching for the lakes, but a bit of a problem if your talking about diving, getting in and out of the boat, The pedals are just in the way. There are ways to get around that by removing them ( Leashed at all times ) and storing away ect.

If your surgery is soon, probably best to wait and see how things go. Maybe paddling a kayak will be the perfect Therapy for ya...
