jonesz good to see you bought a Hobie Mirage Revolution. The Mirage kayaks can be farkled almost as much as a Kawasaki KLR650. You seem to be going about the upgrades the right way by taking your time. Search the internet forums for photos of these kayaks and read everything you can.

I am buying a Mirage because of a bad shoulder and their ability to travel quickly. I have been searching the internet and talking to as many persons as I can find any information about kayaks, kayak fishing, kayak camping...and the Hobie Mirage. Tomorrow I will order the Adventure and some accessories. The Adventure should be the best for me because hopefully I will eventually upgrade to the Adventure Island for some coastal sailing trips though if I don't I am not out all of that money. Fishing, touring, and camping are high on my list of things to do with the Adventure. As for the GWS I will take my chances. On occassion I used to swim train and triathlon in the Santa Cruz area and lived another day. The very cold water is probably more harmful my sinuses and testicles than the chance of a GWS attack. Oh and I used to race outrigger canoes (six and single seat) in Santa Cruz, Monterey and Berkeley. No GWS sightings. I am going to guess a load of fish on-board might more of a concern than two flippers that don't look like any other fish.

Accessories I am looking at buying are: ST Turbo fins, Sail. Cart, Vest, Drift chute, and an Anchor & kit. I might buy a new seat, WindPaddle (if it will work on an Adventure), and...?

Also I am ordering an '09 to take advantage of the new Mirage drive, the new fin shafts, the new rudder gear. and to get teh color I want.

Hope I enjoy mine as much as you sound like you will be enjoying yours.

Are the 09's already out?  Man, where does the time go?

Enjoy your new ride.  I have an 07 orange Adventure and love it.  Wouldn't trade it for the world - except maybe for an upgrade.  The new fin shifts and rudder gears look nice.

As far as accessories on your list go, the ST Turbo fins are a must.  I'm not sure what the Sail. Cart is.  By vest, do you mean PFD?  If so, make sure that you try on other brands too.  Don't know much about their drift chute but do know that their anchor & kit isn't much unless they have changed it.  In fact, I think you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

Have fun!
