perhaps we will laugh together mooch?

...together we will conquer and prove wrong to those who doubt the magical (and expensive) lucanus....and bring home the mighty ling....and bask in glory as we talk trash to the losers in the end.

The trick to fishing these is to not jig them. Simply drop to the bottom then reel up slowly. Whe a fish takes them simply reel up a little quicker do not set the hook, or so says the instructions. I did get a few nice verms on this thing, but a 7" swim bait worked much better.

Well, the Lucanus jigs are less expensive than their Butterfly jigs. In that they actually come with hooks.

those hooks are too small.  you have to replace them if you are fishing for rock fish or lings.

at least that is my input after watching sc x factor get a lot of hits on his, but not a lot of hookups.

I can see that possibly being an issue. However, the pig of a Black that I caught last year at Elk came on a 1/2 oz jig/curly tail grub, using what was essentially Trout gear :). The hook didn't have much more of an opening than those found on the Lucanus that I looked at. This was a pretty good sized Black for NorCal, being either just under 22 or 23".
