I've got a couple carts with the "standard" wheels (bought before they made the "sand" wheels carts) and the oldest one did develop slow leaks in both tires. I completely deflated them & ran a thick bead of silicone around the inside of the rim before filling them with air. In the last few years I used that cart regularly on decently gnarly, decently long trails (one time hauling 2 yaks on it at once), I did not have to refill the tires except to top them off before the start of each season.

I had planned on getting the parts to rebuild the older cart into a "sand wheel" cart before Elk, but I was forced to buy a new truck waterpump instead :smt013. When I do purchase the parts from Wheeleze I'll be sure to get the "good" wheels.

I only went to REI because of my discount did not want to pay 200. dollars for this thing  :smt009

I ordered mine from Outback Adventures.  Although it wasn't the 20% off that you can get at REI, they do give 10% to all NCKA members if you mention it to them.  I think in the end it was approximately $185.  Just food for thought.

That's funny and just my luck to get the one out of three. I'm glad to hear yours are good.

Thanks for the offer Don! I'll be in SC next week. Let's talk and set another time.

I bought wheels before the Elk tourney and also got the "bad" ones.  I was up for three days and had to fill the tires two of the three days.  I noticed several other near flats at Elk and all seemed to be the "bad" wheels.

I bought mine from Wheeleez and after reading the earlier posts, I called Wheeleez and asked about exchanging.  They told me exchanges are made only if the wheels are in brand new condition.  Mine were'nt because I had used them to move the yak around the yard.

Does anyone have a contact at Wheeleez who might be interested in exchanging wheels for customer satisfaction.

Thanks,

Doug

Same experience here, Doug.  In another thread it was noted that on some of these faulty units the valves were the issue.  It's worth checking out...  could be a $1 fix.

Eric,

Thanks for the tip.  I'll take both wheels off and dunk them in the swimming pool.  Unless it is a very slow leak, I should be able to find it.  I filled both tires to 3 psi this am and they are about 1/2 flat after about 10 hours.

here's some sections of the Uniform Commercial Code that may come in handy in negotiating a return or replacement of most any consumer goods, including Wheeleez.

"Unless excluded or modified (Section 2316), a warranty that the goods shall be merchantable is implied in a contract for their sale if the seller is a merchant with respect to goods of that kind." Cal Unif. Com Code § 2314(1)

"Where the seller at the time of contracting has reason to know any particular purpose for which the goods are required and that the buyer is relying on the seller's skill or judgment to select or furnish suitable goods, there is unless excluded or modified under the next section an implied warranty that the goods shall be fit for such purpose."  Cal Unif. Com Code § 2315.

*Wheeleez knows the carts are going to be used for the particular purpose of transporting boats across sand and littoral area.  After all that's what they specifically designed to do.
*Consumer relies on Wheeleez to furnish carts suitable for that purpose.  It is also understood that the carts would pass without objection under scrutiny by those of ordinary skill in the trade.
*your cart stinks.
*The implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose apply, unless excluded or modified.

I usually read the labels pretty carefully on my stuff.  I do not know whether these implied warranties were excluded or modified, but if you hit em with the implied warranties, you'll usually get some relief.

It might be worth sending Wheeleez a link to this thread with your complaint letter. Maybe put a little spur in their arse.

 Great Legal Jinglo There!!!!!

I have a e-mail address of a woman I talked to there. I think I will call, and then send a carefully worded

e-mail to her about our disatisfaction with these wheels.

Thanks Again ..... Danglin
