My new favorite lure is a woolybuggger, I have been catching bluegill, trout and smallmouth  every time I use it. I use a 5 1/2 foot spinning rod, with 4 lb test. No fly rod needed!!

My favorite lure..."MEGABAIT BUCKTAIL JIG">>I was in the parking lot of my usual stomping grounds when i asked a fellow kayaker how he did "I got my limit of rockfish." he replied. I asked him what he used and he showed my $90 worth of lures but said they seemed to key in on one in particular. A white 1 oz megabait brand bucktail jig. I went to the store and bought a white 1 oz and a chartreuse 1 1/2 oz "megabait bucktail" and im going to get a 2 oz now aswell. I added a 6 inch white grub to the hook on both and keep the bucktail full of anchovie scented gel(it seems to help a lot). I have great luck catching rockfish on these lures of all sizes.
The other day i couldn't find any live bait, there was a medium size swell, and the wind was blowing like crazy. I finally gave up on the live bait and through on the chartreuse 1 1/2 oz  but i was drifting too fast so a added a 3 oz weight 3 feet above the lure. I dropped the rig down a let the weight hit the bottom and drifted without and snags on my way back hoping for a halibut or rockfish, something, i had been skunked. Then i felt a tap, thinking it was a rockfish i got ready and wham lingcod on, hook set great right through the lip. The ling wrapped my line around some kelp about 10 ft under the surface and was making runs while my line was wrapped every time i pulled it up to the kelp. When he was done running i was able to pull the fish hard enough to free him without pulling out the hook from his lip. I pulled up an exhausted lingcod of 32 inches and 12 lbs. My first lingcod, damn that was fun. As a paddled back the wind died, the swell died, the sun came out, and the birds where diving on bait.........go figure.

Hmm, like Mako1, I have favorite lures for different occasions.

Here's one I've been favoring recently for bass, but in reality I think I like it more than the bass.  The Rapala X-rap shad.  It combines two of my favorite lures in one: the shad rap and the x-rap.

Suppose you could pick only one, and that was it for all your fishing?  You can use different sizes and colors, but you get one "style" only....then what?

Steve -

That's easy for me. It would be the Acme Kastmaster. You can cast, troll or jig it and it will catch anything from trout to tuna. The Banjo Minnow would be my second choice.  :smt005

For only one I'd have to go with a bucktail-type jig.

It would have to be a Jig.
